Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dan Spackman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karl Donitz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Spackman kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dan Spackman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Karl Donitz!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Shigeki Fujiwara and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Donitz blocks a head kick by Spackman.
Spackman connects with a crisp jab.
Donitz shoots in but no luck this time.
Spackman lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Donitz slips a jab and a cross from Spackman.
Spackman scores with a three punch combo!


It looks like Karl Donitz has been cut.
Donitz takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Donitz shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Spackman as he avoids it easily.

Spackman closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Donitz to the mat! Donitz manages to get full guard.
Spackman trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Spackman is working hard here to advance position.
Donitz seems keen to control Spackman's posture.
Spackman trying to control the position from guard on top but Donitz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Spackman fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Donitz sprawls well initially but Spackman persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Donitz is looking to control Spackman's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Donitz avoid being mounted?

Donitz wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Donitz controls Spackman momentarily but Spackman frees himself.

Spackman will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Spackman has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Donitz has passed into side control.
Spackman is looking to regain half guard here but Donitz keeps moving and retains side control.
Donitz is looking to take a break and control but Spackman is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Donitz wants to control but Spackman is keeping him busy.

Spackman is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Donitz pulls his head out easily.
Spackman tries to get to full guard but Donitz has control of the leg.
Spackman throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Donitz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Spackman keeps working.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Donitz avoids the body shot from Spackman.
Spackman lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Donitz fails with the takedown

and Spackman counters with a shoot takedown. Donitz fights it but they end up in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Spackman fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Donitz manages to avoid it.
Donitz misses with a takedown attempt
and Spackman connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Spackman stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Donitz shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Spackman defends it nicely.
Donitz needs to keep his hands up - Spackman had a free shot at his head there.
Donitz is trying desperately to land a takedown but Spackman is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Donitz.
A left and a right from Spackman both land. Nice combination.
Spackman tries a head kick but it misses.
Spackman moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Spackman lands with a nice combination. Donitz backs away looking to recover.

Nice uppercut lands for Spackman. That snapped Donitz's head back.
Spackman lands with a slapping head kick.
Spackman is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Donitz misses with a takedown
and Spackman counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Donitz thinking.
Dan Spackman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Karl Donitz.

Spackman gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Donitz goes for a takedown attempt but Spackman pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Spackman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Donitz avoids the head kick by Spackman.
Spackman is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

and Donitz counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Spackman is on top in guard.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Spackman wants to pass the guard but Donitz is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Spackman stands up over Donitz, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Dan Spackman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Spackman is looking to advance position but Donitz has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Donitz jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Spackman is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Spackman and Donitz has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Donitz lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Dan Spackman is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Spackman tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Donitz wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Spackman will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Spackman lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Donitz circles away quickly and effectively.

Spackman shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Spackman throws a nice outside leg kick.
Donitz will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Spackman misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
No joy there for Spackman, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dan Spackman.
Well Spackman has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
