PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Richard Butts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Bellis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Butts kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is The Proclaimers - I would walk 500 miles. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Richard Butts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, David Bellis!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Butts defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Bellis.
An inside leg kick lands from Bellis.
Bellis changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Butts tries to avoid it but Bellis manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Butts to the ground. Butts escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Bellis defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Butts.
Bellis misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Butts shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bellis as he avoids it easily.
Butts throws a leg kick
and Bellis counters with an inside leg kick.

Butts darts in and clinches Bellis up against the cage.
Bellis has Butts pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Butts manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Richard Butts has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David Bellis.
Bellis is trying to force a seperation but Butts has the dominant position.
Bellis throws an elbow but it misses.
Bellis tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Bellis blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Bellis changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Butts fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Butts is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Butts has his hands clasped together around Bellis's back. He's all about the action.

Bellis seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Butts does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bellis tries to stand and escape but Butts is controlling the position.
Bellis is looking to take a break and control but Butts is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Bellis takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Butts closes the distance and pushes Bellis back into the cage.
Butts goes for a takedown in the clinch but Bellis prevents it.
Butts lands with a left to the head.
Bellis tries to circle away but Butts has him pinned against the cage.
Bellis is trying to break the clinch but Butts has him pressed against the cage.
Butts tries to pull guard but Bellis won't allow it.
Bellis jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Butts walks away with a smile on his face. Bellis gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Bellis closes the distance and clinches up with Butts, looking for a takedown. Bellis pushes Butts against the cage but Butts circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

and Butts counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Butts.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Butts tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Bellis smiles and moves away.
Horrible takedown by Bellis or perhaps it was just good defense by Butts which made him look bad.

Butts gets the takedown into side control.
Bellis is being controlled here.

Butts has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Nice takedown defense from Bellis. No joy for Butts on that attempt.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Butts.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bellis.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bellis tries for a takedown but Butts sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Butts throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Bellis.
Bellis stuffs the takedown attempt from Butts. Butts gets slowly back to his feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Bellis is trying to stall.

Butts jumps guard and drags Bellis to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Butts is looking to stand up but Bellis isn't so interested in that idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bellis won't allow Butts to sweep him here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Richard Butts dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Bellis clinches but Butts breaks the clinch

and Butts counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Bellis is trying to keep Butts in close.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Butts gets to his feet. Bellis looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Butts clinches.

Butts decides to pull guard.
Bellis trying to control but Butts is working from the bottom.
Butts on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Butts tries to get out of the position.

Butts is looking for a triangle but Bellis pushes his legs off easily.
Bellis is breathing heavily.
Butts looking to hit a scissor sweep but Bellis is one step ahead there.

Butts keeping moving, preventing Bellis from controlling successfully.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bellis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Butts rushes Bellis and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Butts is working for takedown but Bellis is calmly controlling the position for now.

Butts tries to break free but Bellis pushes him back against the cage.

Bellis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Butts swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Butts looking for a sweep. Not yet Butts, not yet.
Butts seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Butts has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Bellis wants to control from the top but Butts keeps moving.
Butts is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Bellis dives into side control.
Butts wants to control but Bellis postures up.
Butts is not content to let Bellis control the position.
Butts is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Richard Butts dominated that second round.
That's time! Butts's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

and Bellis counters with a single leg into guard. Butts didn't expect that.
Butts looking to control but Bellis passes into half guard.
Bellis wants to take a breather but Butts is having none of it.
Bellis works his way into side control.
Butts tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bellis wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Bellis misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
