PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Roberto Andrade (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yusuf Akumi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Roberto Andrade!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yusuf Akumi!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Paulsen Ambrosius and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akumi throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Andrade's waist but Andrade gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Akumi off to one side.

and Akumi counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Akumi drops back, looking for a kneebar! Andrade looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Andrade looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Andrade!

Akumi is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Andrade tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Andrade has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Akumi wants to improve his position but Andrade is controlling well.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Akumi tries for a takedown but Andrade circles away easily

and Andrade counters with a shoot takedown. Akumi fights it but they end up in guard.

Akumi is looking for a sweep. Andrade is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Andrade tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Akumi.

Akumi is defending against the submission attempts here by Andrade.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Akumi counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Akumi looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Andrade wants to control but Akumi is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Akumi is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Akumi should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Akumi is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Andrade sees it coming and defends easily.

Andrade makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Andrade.
Andrade not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Andrade cracks Akumi with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Akumi can't escape the position.
Andrade working away from the top, dropping strikes.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Andrade looking to finish Akumi with some ground and pound. This is bad for Akumi!
Akumi is trying desperately to improve position.
Andrade has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Akumi's face.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Roberto Andrade will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Akumi has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Andrade can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Andrade is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Andrade is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Andrade thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Akumi is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Andrade defends well.

Andrade stands up over Akumi, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Roberto Andrade overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Akumi looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Akumi is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Andrade is looking to stand up but Akumi won't let him.

Akumi has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Andrade can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Akumi escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Andrade gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Akumi is looking for a triangle but Andrade pushes his legs off easily.

Akumi has his foot on Andrade's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Andrade works his way back into a safe position though.

Andrade stands and throws Akumi's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Andrade tries to stand but Akumi is controlling his head.
Akumi is looking to regain half guard here but Andrade keeps moving and retains side control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Akumi gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Andrade to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Akumi has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Andrade is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Akumi.

Akumi parries the strikes from Andrade easily there. Andrade is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Akumi to escape.
Akumi manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Akumi wants to pass to mount but Andrade is defending the position.
Akumi works his way into full mount!

Akumi looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Akumi is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Andrade is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Andrade flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Akumi anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Andrade and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Akumi slips an arm under Andrade chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Akumi has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Akumi is squeezing on Andrade like an anaconda would it's prey. Andrade fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:28 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Yusuf Akumi!
