Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bert Bainite (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Skyler Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nelson has chosen One as his entrance music. Skyler Nelson has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Bert Bainite!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Skyler Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Arvi Lind and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nelson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bainite tries to avoid it but Nelson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bainite to the ground. Bainite escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Bainite fails with an attempt to clinch.
Bainite shoots in for a double leg but Nelson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Nelson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Nelson lands in his opponent's guard.
Nelson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Bainite working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Nelson has passed into half guard!
Nelson seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Nelson tries to free his leg and advance position but Bainite is retaining full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bainite is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Nelson stands up from Bainite's guard - Nelson perhaps looking for a knockout.
Nelson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Bainite has his takedown stuffed

and Nelson moves into the clinch.
Nelson jumps guard but Bainite stands there with Nelson around his waist. Nelson gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Nelson tries for a takedown but Bainite manages to get underhooks.
Bert Bainite has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Skyler Nelson.
Nelson goes for a takedown in the clinch but Bainite prevents it.

Nelson has hold of one of Bainite's legs. Bainite is fighting the takedown attempt but Nelson gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Nelson prevents Bainite from getting back to his feet.
Nelson keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Bainite's head.
Nelson wants to control from the top but Bainite keeps moving.
Nelson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Bainite thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Bainite is trying to keep Nelson in close.
Nelson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Bainite tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Nelson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Bainite won't be happy with that.
Bainite is trying to control Nelson's posture but Nelson avoids it.
Nelson is looking to take a break and control but Bainite is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Nelson slows the pace down.
Nelson looks gassed!
Bainite is looking for a sweep.
Nelson fails to land a wild elbow strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Skyler Nelson dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Nelson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Bainite is trying to defend but Nelson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Bainite trying to get back to full guard but Nelson takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Nelson throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Bainite because Nelson loaded up on that one.
Bainite keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Bainite wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Nelson.
Nelson looking to control but Bainite is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Poor strikes thrown by Nelson there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Bainite is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Nelson goes for an armbar but Bainite turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Bainite.

Nelson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Nelson is breathing heavily.

Nelson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bainite can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Bainite tries to free his leg and advance position but Nelson is retaining full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Bainite trying to control but Nelson is working from the bottom.
Bainite has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Bainite is stalling in the full guard.
Bainite throwing strikes but missing.
Nelson has momentary wrist control but Bainite slips an elbow through the middle.

Bainite got a little sloppy there for a moment and Nelson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bainite has managed to get both his arms back between Nelson's legs - danger averted.
Bainite trying to control the position from guard on top but Nelson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Bainite sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Nelson's guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Bainite wants to take a breather but Nelson is having none of it.

Bainite wants to pass the guard but Nelson is keeping the position.
Bainite is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Nelson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Bainite is aware though and is defending well.
Bainite passes Nelson's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Skyler Nelson will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!

Nelson is trying to control Bainite's posture but Bainite avoids it.

Nelson is trying to stick to Bainite's back but Bainite is turning into Nelson. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Nelson's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Bainite.

Bainite gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Nelson is looking to control Bainite's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Nelson avoid being mounted?

Nelson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bainite is working away from the top position though.
Bainite works his way into full mount!

Nelson is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Bainite controlling his opponent.
Bert Bainite has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bainite wants to control the pace but Nelson is squirming around nicely.
Nelson wants to control but Bainite is having none of it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Skyler Nelson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Bert Bainite showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Nelson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
