Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carlo Labayen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, David Valadez! The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Valadez throws a nice inside leg kick. Valadez misses with the combination.
Labayen closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Labayen lands in his opponent's guard. Valadez looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Labayen passes into half guard.
Labayen will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Valadez trying to control here.
Labayen is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Valadez is just riding it out for now. Labayen eventually gives up the hold. Labayen stands up out of the half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Valadez has his takedown stuffed and Labayen counters with a nice double leg into guard. Labayen trying to control but Valadez is working from the bottom. Labayen sitting in guard, not really doing much. Labayen trying to control but Valadez is working from the bottom. Labayen slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Valadez looking to control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Labayen lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Labayen shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Valadez defends it nicely. Valadez misses with the combination.
Valadez looks gassed! Labayen has his takedown stuffed and Valadez counters with a nice double leg into guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Valadez connects with a couple of short punches. Valadez stopping the sweep attempt from Labayen. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Valadez trying to stand up but can't free himself from Labayen's guard. Valadez trying to control but Labayen is working from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Valadez with a flurry of punches that miss. Valadez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Labayen looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Labayen lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Valadez! Labayen in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Valadez trying desperately to get to his feet.
Labayen lands a big elbow. Valadez wants to get back to his feet.
Labayen controlling the position easily from mount. Labayen working for a submission but Valadez is keeping him at bay. Labayen controlling his opponent. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Labayen prevents Valadez from getting the reversal. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Labayen scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Labayen is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Valadez tries to get to full guard but Labayen has control of the leg. Valadez is looking to control Labayen's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Valadez avoid being mounted? Labayen in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Valadez tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Labayen!
