Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kent Wire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Matters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wire comes to the cage accompanied by Bust Back. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kevin Matters!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Bruno Hogan and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matters misses with a head kick.
Matters throws a series of punches but Wire avoids them all with ease.
Wire really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Wire stalks Matters and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Matters's face. Matters staggers backwards, shaken.
Wire shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Matters pinned against the cage. Matters gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Matters throws a left and a right that both miss
and Wire counters with a good, hard body kick but Matters shrugs it off.
Wire will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Matters moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Wire pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Wire looks to land a combination. Matters sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Wire throws a right and a left that both miss.
Matters fails to land with a series of punches.
A punch combination from Matters misses.
Matters throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Wire forces Matters back against the cage and clinches.
Matters wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Wire lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Matters or not.

Wire breaks from the clinch.

A head kick by Matters misses

and Wire counters with a combination of strikes to the head and body that crumple Matters!


Matters is rocked!

Wire is working for a kimura but Matters is defending it quite comfortably.
Wire is breathing heavily.
Wire seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wire is trying to control the action in half guard but Matters is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Matters is looking for a sweep. Wire is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Matters looks like he's trying to stand up.
Wire will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Wire decides to return to a standing position.
Matters throws a right hand that Wire ducks under and follows up with a left that Wire also avoids with ease.
Kent Wire seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wire looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Matters lands with a hook. Wire tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Matters is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Wire.
Wire avoids the head kick by Matters.
A punch combination from Wire misses.
Wire moves away from the strike by Matters.
Wire tries for a takedown but Matters sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kent Wire. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Wire shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Wire showed some decent athleticism there.

Wire is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Matters is looking to improve his position.

Wire postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Matters to stand up.

Wire will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Wire drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Wire knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Matters on the ground.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Wire stands up from Matters's guard - Wire perhaps looking for a knockout.
Wire shoots for a double leg takedown but Matters sprawls well. He's pushed Wire's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Matters circles away from the clinch attempt.
Wire moves out of range as Matters throws a body kick.

Wire looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Nice uppercut there from Matters.
Kevin Matters is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Wire shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Matters misses with a few strikes there.

Wire fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Matters throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Wire.
Wire thows a body kick. Matters tries to catch it but that hurt him.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Wire.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Wire decides to stand up, so the ref orders Matters to his feet.
Wire throws a head kick that misses.
Matters has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Matters throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Wire's head.
Matters lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Matters throws the kick towards the body but Wire avoids it.
Oh Wire is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

A nice inside leg kick there by Matters. That's going to slow Wire down.
Matters changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
A jab from Matters does it's job there.
Matters wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Matters misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Matters stuffs the takedown.
Wire throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Wire closes this distance looking for a takedown but Matters circles away.
Wire throws a left and a right that both miss
and Matters counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Matters misses with a leg kick.
Matters throws a front kick aimed at Wire's knee but Wire avoids it well.
Matters is looking to land body kicks.
Matters lands with a right that hurts Wire. Wire looks to clinch but Matters throws a short knee that drops Wire. This one is all over!
