PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mike Righty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Allmen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Allmen comes into a darkened arena with his song building. "Snakebite" by Racer X kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Mike Righty had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 172.5lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as James Allmen enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Righty!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Allmen!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Emerson Jorge and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Righty swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Allmen shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Allmen showed some decent athleticism there.
Righty moves into full guard.
Allmen looking to pass the guard.
Allmen wants to stand but Righty has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Righty throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Righty is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Righty is looking for a triangle here but Allmen uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Allmen tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Allmen has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Righty could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Allmen lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Allmen tries for a kimura but Righty is defending well.
Righty is trying to control Allmen's posture but Allmen avoids it.
Allmen wants to control but Righty is keeping him busy.

Allmen stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Allmen.

You can see the frustration on Righty's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Allmen is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Righty has escaped the position, nice work there.

Allmen is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Righty knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Righty is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Allmen's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Allmen is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Allmen is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Righty is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Righty is covering up but some of the strikes from Allmen are getting through and doing damage.
Oh Righty is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Righty looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Allmen working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Allmen dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Righty tries for a takedown but Allmen circles away easily

and Allmen counters with a nice double leg into side control. Righty won't be happy with that.

Righty isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Allmen stacks Righty on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Allmen!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Allmen working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Righty is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Allmen off and has taken his back!

Allmen is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Allmen breaks Righty's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Righty has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Allmen is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Righty.

Righty is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Righty kicks off Allmen and gets to his feet.
Allmen moves out of range of the leg kick from Righty.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Allmen cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Righty is in all sorts of trouble here.

Righty tries to lock up and control but Allmen gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Allmen manages to capitalize on a mistake by Righty to take his back!
Allmen punishes Righty with strikes from the back mount.
Righty rolls, trying to escape but Allmen keeps control of the position.

Allmen working for a choke but Righty is defending well.
Righty rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Righty is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Righty throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Righty moves into full guard.
Righty trying to control the position.
Righty lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Allmen!
Allmen is working to get back to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Righty with shots to the head and body - Allmen looks very uncomfortable down there.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Righty pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

James Allmen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Righty is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Allmen's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Allmen's back!
