PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Colt Hardin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Balboa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hardin comes to the cage accompanied by Thunder Kiss '65 by White Zombie. Balboa has chosen Punch Drunk as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Colt Hardin!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Balboa!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Bruno Lombardi and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hardin lands with a straight right. Balboa didn't see that one coming.
Balboa misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Balboa is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Hardin.
Hardin throws the left hand but Balboa avoids the punch easily.
Balboa fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Hardin looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Balboa looks to score with a jab to the body but Hardin is just out of range.
Balboa bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Hardin's head.
Balboa fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Balboa takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hardin connects with a crisp jab.
Hardin throws a jab when Balboa was well out of range.
Balboa swings for the body but Hardin moves out of range.
Balboa looks to throw the jab but Hardin is out of range.
Hardin misses with an uppercut.
Hardin avoids a punch combination nicely.
Balboa ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hardin moves away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Balboa missing with a left hand there. Hardin was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Balboa thows a body shot but no joy.
Hardin moves out of range as Balboa strikes.
Balboa takes a swing at Hardin's ribcage but misses.

Balboa rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hardin moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Balboa thows a left - swing and a miss!
Hardin wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Balboa throws a jab but it's blocked by Hardin.
Hardin moves in looking to clinch but Balboa pushes him off.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Hardin uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Balboa.
A nice leg kick lands there from Hardin.
Hardin moves away from the strike by Balboa.
A big right from Hardin misses.

Balboa throws a hook but Hardin blocks it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Colt Hardin will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Hardin throws an overhand right that lands on Balboa's shoulder, as Balboa tries to avoid the shot.
Balboa throws a right hand that Hardin ducks under and follows up with a left that Hardin also avoids with ease.
Hardin uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Balboa.

Balboa drops his hands momentarily and Hardin takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hardin throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Balboa stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Balboa is breathing heavily.
Hardin scores with a hook to the body. Balboa takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Hardin scores with a leg kick.
Hardin has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.
Hardin looks to throw the jab but Balboa is out of range.

The crowd cheers as Hardin lands an impressive looking overhand right. Balboa doesn't seem phased though.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hardin fails in his attempt to clinch.
Balboa misses with a hook. Hardin ducked under it nicely.
Hardin connects with a solid leg kick.
Hardin is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Balboa has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Hardin finds it's way round the side to connect with Balboa's head.
Balboa falls off balance throwing a combination
and Hardin counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Hardin misses with a hook.
Colt Hardin is winning the standup battle so far.
Hardin wants to clinch.
Hardin lands with a thumping leg kick.

Hardin moves into the clinch successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hardin keeps control of Balboa as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Hardin goes for a takedown attempt but Balboa pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Balboa misses with a body punch
and Hardin counters with a straight right hand.
A jab from Hardin does it's job there.


That has opened up Michael Balboa's cut even more.
Balboa on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Hardin lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Hardin.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Balboa slips under a jab.
Hardin scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Balboa doesn't seem bothered though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

The cut above Michael Balboa's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Balboa throws a left and a right that both miss
letting Hardin counter with a right hand.
Balboa takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Balboa misses with a hook to the body
and Hardin counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Hardin throws a quick inside leg kick.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hardin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Hardin swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Hardin lands with a right hand.

Hardin closes the distance and clinches.
Hardin lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Balboa backwards.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Balboa has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Hardin lands a nice uppercut.


Michael Balboa's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
The referee is keeping an eye on Hardin - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Hardin keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Balboa's efforts to push away.
Hardin throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Balboas head.
Hardin lands an uppercut.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Michael Balboa's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Colt Hardin!
