PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Frank Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Forrest Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Evans has chosen Lithium-Nirvana as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Forrest Evans!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Alan Glass and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Penn drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Penn content to stall in guard here.
Penn pushes down on Evans's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Evans wants to get back to his feet.

Penn is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Penn looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Penn is pressing down on Evans's thigh, looking to free his foot. Evans is holding on for now.
Penn stops Evans from getting back to his feet.
Evans really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Penn. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Penn wants to take a breather but Evans is having none of it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Penn closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Evans to the mat! Evans manages to get full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Penn controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Penn pushing down on Evans's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Evans has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Penn is working away from the top position though.
Penn is trying to control the action in half guard but Evans is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Penn is breathing heavily.

Penn is working for a submission of some sort.

Evans is pressing down on Penn's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Penn postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Evans is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Penn, into his guard.

Evans trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Penn is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Penn is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Penn has his foot on Evans's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Evans works his way back into a safe position though.

Penn working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Evans doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Evans manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Evans would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Penn is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Evans thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Evans flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Penn prevents Evans from improving his position.

Penn is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Evans doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Penn.
Penn moves into full mount! Evans won't be happy about that!
Penn can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Evans is looking to escape.

Evans closes this distance looking for a takedown but Penn circles away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Penn.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Penn gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Evans regains guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Penn in particular looking to stall.

Penn is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Evans is just riding it out for now. Penn eventually gives up the hold.

Evans is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Penn pulls his head out easily.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Penn is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Evans's half guard.

Penn is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Evans is in trouble now - Penn has advanced to mount!

Penn jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Evans manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Penn is looking to take a break and control but Evans is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Penn is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Evans knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Evans manages to work his way to half guard, despite Penn's best efforts.

Penn takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Evans tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Frank Penn overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Penn is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Penn is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Penn has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Evans can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Penn had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Evans defends it easily.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Evans is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Penn seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Penn bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Evans's guard.
