PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between PJ Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Travis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that PJ Jones has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily PJ Jones seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, PJ Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Justin Travis!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, John Kavanagh and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones misses with a takedown attempt - Travis sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Jones fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Travis sprawls well initially but Jones persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Travis is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jones throwing shots but Travis is blocking nicely.
Travis keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Jones looks to land a strike but Travis avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Travis swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jones throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Travis works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Jones prevents Travis from getting back to his feet.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Travis misses with a straight right.

Travis stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Travis wants it to stay on the feet.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but Travis shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for PJ Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jones looks for a takedown but Travis sprawls well.
Travis closes the distance and clinches up with Jones, looking for a takedown. Travis pushes Jones against the cage but Jones circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Travis misses the jab.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Travis throws a looping overhand right but Jones ducks down to avoid it.
Jones displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Travis throws out the jab.
Travis swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Travis throws a big shot that misses.
The fighters circling - Travis throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Jones keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Travis throws out a loose jab but Jones uses good head movement to avoid it.
Jones tries for a takedown but Travis circles away easily
and Travis counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Jones scores with a takedown into Travis's guard.
Jones postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Jones trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Travis working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Jones.
Jones postures up in Travis's guard and throws a big left but Travis blocks it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Jones with a flurry of punches that miss.
Jones working some strikes from top position.
Travis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Travis utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Travis cracks Jones with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.


It looks like PJ Jones has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jones uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Travis.
The fighters circling - Travis throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Travis fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Jones on the side of the head.
Jones wants to clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Justin Travis dominated that round.
The cut man is working on PJ Jones's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

and Travis counters with a crisp right hand that drops Jones! Travis lets Jones back up to his feet, looking for a finish!
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for PJ Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Travis counters with a huge left! Jones is in big trouble! He's backing up but Travis isn't giving him chance to recover. Under a barage of punches the ref has to step in to save Jones from any more damage. A dominating finish by Travis!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:03 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Justin Travis!
