The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
john dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Chevarie. That did some damage!
john throws a front kick that sends Chevarie stumbling back into the cage.
Chevarie is breathing heavily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
john misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
john throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

john gets the takedown into side control.
john lands some shots froms side control.

It looks like Gaston Chevarie has been cut.
john scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Chevarie to see if he's OK.
Chevarie is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
john is looking to take a break and control but Chevarie is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
john content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

john connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Chevarie some visible discomfort.
