The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ribeiro throws a looping overhand right but Thompson ducks down to avoid it.
Thompson gets a takedown into half guard.
Ribeiro punching from the bottom.
Ribeiro slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Ribeiro is trying to control the position but Thompson postures up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ribeiro is striking but Thompson is not phased and passes to half guard.

Ribeiro throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Thompson escapes and throws Ribeiro's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Ribeiro is breathing heavily.
Thompson is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Thompson is looking to take a break and control but Ribeiro is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ribeiro wants to control but Thompson postures up.

Thompson lands an elbow.
Thompson looks up at the clock and then as Ribeiro takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Thompson smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Ribeiro is trying to control Thompson's posture but Thompson avoids it.

Thompson's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Thompson decides to stand up, so the ref orders Ribeiro to his feet.
Cole Thompson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Thompson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Thompson is working for takedown but Ribeiro is calmly controlling the position for now.

Good anti-grappling being displayed by Ribeiro as Thompson tries to tie him up.
Ribeiro jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Thompson walks away with a smile on his face. Ribeiro gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Ribeiro tries for a takedown but Thompson circles away easily
and Thompson counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Thompson.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Cole Thompson dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Thompson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Thompson lands in his opponent's guard.
Ribeiro pushes a forearm under Thompson's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Thompson is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
