Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ground Pound!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Taj Mahal!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Hirohito Nitta and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mahal closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Pound did well to prevent Mahal getting side control.

Pound is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mahal pulls his head out easily.

Mahal wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pound keeps working.

Pound might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Mahal feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Pound has his foot on Mahal's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mahal works his way back into a safe position though.

Mahal shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Pound napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Mahal stands up and beckons Pound to his feet.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Mahal moves into the clinch successfully.

Pound is fighting off a takedown attempt but Mahal is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Pound to the mat. Pound regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Pound could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Pound isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Mahal stacks Pound on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Mahal!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Taj Mahal showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Mahal with a lazy takedown attempt

Pound with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Pound has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Mahal is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Pound.

and Pound counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mahal holds on and takes a little breather.

Pound has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Well Mahal has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
