PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tony Camozzi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raz Zar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Raz Zar told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tony Camozzi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Raz Zar!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Robert Twigg and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Camozzi tries for a takedown but Zar sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Zar shoots in for a double leg but Camozzi sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Camozzi doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Zar counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Zar drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Zar jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Zar drops back looking for a leg! Camozzi is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Camozzi manages to kick Zar off! Zar jumps back into Camozzi's guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Zar counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Camozzi can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Zar controls the pace.

Zar wants to control from the top but Camozzi keeps moving.

Camozzi working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Zar doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Zar manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Camozzi looks for a takedown but Zar sprawls well.

Zar shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Camozzi as he jumps to the side.
Camozzi tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Camozzi throws a left that rocks Zar and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! Camozzi dives into side control, looking to finish! Can Zar regain composure!

It looks like Raz Zar has been cut.
Camozzi misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Zar is still in real trouble! Can Camozzi finish him?
Camozzi working the ground and pound but Zar is defending the strikes.
Camozzi throws an elbow but Zar slips to the side and avoids it well.
Zar seems to have recovered his senses.
You can see the frustration on Zar's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Zar is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
This has been an exciting period of action!

and Zar counters with a nice double leg into side control. Camozzi won't be happy with that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Camozzi is trying to get back to his feet.
Camozzi is trying to control Zar's posture but Zar avoids it.
Zar wants to control but Camozzi is keeping him busy.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Zar misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Zar wants to lay and pray for a moment but Camozzi keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tony Camozzi will probably get the nod.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

so Zar counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Zar trying to control the position from guard on top but Camozzi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Camozzi is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Camozzi thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Camozzi throws a sloppy head kick and Zar moves out of range easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Camozzi defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Zar.
Zar takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

Zar looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Camozzi is staying active underneath Zar, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Camozzi wants to improve his position but Zar is controlling well.
Camozzi is trying to maintain the position but Zar is very close to passing his half guard.
Zar uses his free foot to push down on Camozzi's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Camozzi.
Zar prevents Camozzi from getting the reversal.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Camozzi wants to hold on but Zar pushes him away.

Zar looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Zar can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Camozzi is looking to escape.

Raz Zar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Zar swats away the attempt to clinch by Camozzi.
Horrible takedown by Camozzi or perhaps it was just good defense by Zar which made him look bad.

Zar takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Camozzi shoots in but Zar avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Camozzi fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Zar.
Camozzi fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Camozzi clinches up against the cage.
Camozzi wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Zar has him pressed against the cage.

Camozzi looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Camozzi pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Camozzi lets loose with a powerful body kick. Zar will feel that in the morning.
Camozzi misses with the combination.
Zar fails with the takedown
and Camozzi counters with a left and a right that stings Zar.
Tony Camozzi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Raz Zar.

Camozzi rushes Zar and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Camozzi is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Camozzi has his foot on Zar's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Zar works his way back into a safe position though.

Zar tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Zar has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Zar is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Camozzi has escaped the position, nice work there.
Camozzi tries to get back to half guard but can't.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tony Camozzi showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Camozzi has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
