PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Jr Jonesy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Barsanti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Barsanti has chosen Bawitdaba as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Jr Jonesy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Barsanti!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Stewart Dunkirk and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Jonesy.
Barsanti throws a right and a left that Jonesy avoids nicely.

Barsanti keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Jonesy punishes Barsanti's body with a nice straight punch.
Barsanti fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Barsanti connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Jonesy shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Barsanti's guard.
Barsanti wants to stand up but Jonesy is controlling him.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Barsanti can do anything to dispel that myth.
Jonesy is stalling in the full guard.

Barsanti is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jonesy accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Jonesy trying to control the position from guard on top but Barsanti is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Barsanti wants to get back to his feet but Jonesy is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Jonesy will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Jonesy throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Jonesy takes one on the button.
Jonesy throws a left and a right that both miss
and Barsanti counters with a left and a right that stings Jonesy.
Barsanti throws a combination that misses

and Jonesy counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Jonesy trying to control but Barsanti is working from the bottom.
Jonesy slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Barsanti wants to get back to his feet but Jonesy is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jonesy sitting in guard here, content to control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jonesy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Barsanti swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Josh Barsanti will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Jonesy lands a really nice looking cross but Barsanti seems unphased.
Jonesy throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
A jab from Barsanti does it's job there.
A slapping leg kick lands for Jonesy.
Jonesy closes this distance looking for a takedown but Barsanti circles away.

Jonesy feints and as Barsanti raises his hands in defense, Jonesy changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Barsanti wants to stand but Jonesy is controlling the position.
Jonesy is pushing down on Barsanti's leg trying to pass to half guard. Barsanti is fighting to maintain full guard but Jonesy has managed to sneak the leg through.

Jonesy is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Barsanti defends it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jonesy controlling the action here.
Barsanti keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Barsanti really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jonesy. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Jonesy winds up and cracks Barsanti with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Jonesy slows the pace down in half guard.
Jonesy wants to take a breather but Barsanti is having none of it.

The referee stands the fighters back up. David Jr Jonesy just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Jonesy shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Jonesy showed some decent athleticism there.
Jonesy seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Barsanti does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Jonesy is stalling here. Barsanti is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Jonesy seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Barsanti has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

The fighters are battling for position here. Jonesy manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Jonesy is working an open guard so Barsanti takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Jr Jonesy dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


The fighters circling - Barsanti throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Barsanti misses with a double jab.
Jonesy thows a body shot but no joy.
Josh Barsanti seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jonesy avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Jonesy changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Barsanti looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Jonesy is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Jonesy misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Jonesy throws an elbow but Barsanti slips to the side and avoids it well.
Barsanti is not content to let Jonesy control the position.

Barsanti tries to escape but Jonesy is in control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Jonesy just content to control the position.
Jonesy postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Jonesy seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Barsanti for as long as he can get away with.

David Jr Jonesy showed his dominance in that final round.
