PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tiago Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Cross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mendez comes to the ring accompanied by Trap Door. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, David Cross!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Glass and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez misses with a jab, cross combination.
Mendez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cross sprawls well. Cross wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mendez gets slowly back to his feet.
Cross throws a good cross that connects.
Mendez tries for a takedown but Cross sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Some wild striking there from Cross.
Cross stuffs the takedown attempt from Mendez. Mendez gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tiago Mendez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cross throws a push kick but Mendez slaps the foot to one side.

Cross looks to throw the jab but Mendez is out of range.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Mendez wants to stand and escape but Cross is having none of it.

Mendez is trying to control but can't.
Cross is just content to waste time from the top position. Mendez takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mendez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cross's guard.

Mendez stands and steps away. Cross gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Mendez wants to clinch up but Cross keeps it at a distance.
Cross ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

and Mendez counters with a nice double leg into guard.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Cross is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Cross is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Mendez is looking to improve his position.
Cross is looking to advance position but Mendez won't allow it.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mendez tries to roll over but Cross keeps him under control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Mendez looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Cross is trying to maintain the position but Mendez is very close to passing his half guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Tiago Mendez will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Mendez takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Mendez is pinned up against the ropes taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
A jab from Cross finds it's way through Mendez's defenses.

Mendez decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Cross tries to score with a low kick but Mendez moves his leg out of the way.

Mendez with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Cross to score with a decent uppercut.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Cross will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Mendez takes a jab right on the kisser.
Cross cracks Mendez with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the ropes.
Cross looks to land a body kick but Mendez moved away.
Mendez cracks Cross with a right hand to the side of the head.
Cross swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Cross dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Mendez lands with an uppercut that bounces Cross off the ropes and back into rage.
Mendez looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

Cross jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Cross shoots in for a takedown but Mendez shows good takedown defense.

Cross lands a lovely overhand right.

David Cross comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Cross has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
