PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ren Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jung Sung Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie comes to the cage accompanied by Summer Madness (Extended Version) Remix . Kim has chosen Crash by Fit for Rivals as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Ren Gracie has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ren Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jung Sung Kim!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Viktor Lagutenko and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim shoots in for a takedown but Gracie shows good takedown defense.
Gracie bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Gracie tries to bum rush Kim with a series of wild strikes but Kim uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Kim changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gracie looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Kim tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Kim wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gracie, who protects the arm well.
Gracie can't do much from the bottom here.
Gracie regains half guard there - taking advantage of Kim's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kim not doing much here.

Kim is trying to work for a kimura but Gracie is defending well.
Kim is taking a breather. Gracie says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gracie tries to roll over but Kim keeps him under control.
Kim is trying to control the action in half guard but Gracie is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Kim is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Despite being in the dominant position, Jung Sung Kim just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kim throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gracie's waist but Gracie gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kim off to one side.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Nice sprawl there from Gracie as Kim shoots in.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jung Sung Kim dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Gracie is looking to land body kicks.
Kim misses with a takedown attempt - Gracie sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Kim looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Gracie!
Gracie wants to control but Kim is having none of it.

Kim content just to control the position here.
Gracie tries to hold on but Kim postures up.
Kim controlling his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Gracie tries to lock up and control but Kim gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Kim looking to ground and pound but Gracie is blocking nicely.
Gracie wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Kim.

Kim throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Kim tries to control but Gracie wriggling away.

Poor strikes thrown by Kim there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kim misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Kim is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Gracie to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Gracie shrugs it off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jung Sung Kim showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Gracie swings for the body but Kim moves out of range.
Jung Sung Kim seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gracie misses with a series of wild punches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kim fails with an attempt to clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gracie keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Kim.
Gracie uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Kim.
Kim ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gracie moves away.

Kim throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Gracie was covering up waiting for the punch and Kim finishes the takedown easily into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kim is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Kim stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gracie swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kim is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jung Sung Kim is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Kim closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kim lands in his opponent's guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kim not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jung Sung Kim comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Kim winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
