Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chong Li!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ji Yong!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Hirohito Nitta and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yong throws a lazy right hand but Li sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Li moves out of range of the strikes.
Ji Yong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A looping hook to the body misses from Yong. Li does a little dance to reset his feet.
Li fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Yong is looking to clinch.
Yong throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Li counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Li is working for a submission of some sort.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Yong is looking for a sweep. Li is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Li trying to control from half guard but Yong is working away.
Li wants to pass to mount but Yong is defending the position.
Li is trying to work for a kimura but Yong is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Li is keen to just control but Yong is a slippery customer.
Yong wants to improve his position but Li is controlling well.
Li wants to control but Yong is keeping him busy.
Li works his foot free and advances to mount.
Li working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Yong turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Li off and cradles Yong's limp body as Li celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:03 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Chong Li!
