The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

It looks like Mitsuyo Maeda has been cut.
Gump lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Maeda shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Gump as he avoids it easily.

Gump swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Gump rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Maeda moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Gump tries to bum rush Maeda with a series of wild strikes but Maeda uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Maeda takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Maeda changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gump tries to avoid it but Maeda manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gump to the ground. Gump escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A combination from Gump does no damage.
Maeda shoots for a takedown but Gump saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Maeda. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Gump fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Maeda looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Maeda thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Maeda passes Gump's left leg - he's now in half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Maeda thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gump's head.
Gump wants to get back to his feet.
Gump is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
