PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between jeff quaker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and dave mastiff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, jeff quaker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, dave mastiff!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Richard Clark and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
mastiff avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
A punch combination from mastiff misses.

quaker drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
quaker working away.

quaker is trying to get an arm triangle but mastiff is defending well.
quaker working the head with strikes.
quaker has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
quaker wants to control but mastiff is keeping him busy.

quaker decides to stand back up.

mastiff fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with quaker, pushing him back against the cage.
mastiff is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
quaker stops a takedown attempt from mastiff.

quaker prevents mastiff from breaking the clinch.

quaker is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

quaker jumps guard but mastiff stands there with quaker around his waist. quaker gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

mastiff has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. quaker avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

mastiff keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of quaker's head.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
quaker wants to sweep here but mastiff controlling him for the moment.
mastiff is working quaker over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

quaker escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. mastiff gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That was a close round but I would say that jeff quaker will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

mastiff is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. quaker can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
mastiff avoids the attempt from quaker to control.
quaker is looking to improve his position but mastiff isn't that keen on the idea.

mastiff has hold of quaker's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and quaker manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
quaker is working to get back to half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
quaker is working hard here to advance position.
mastiff working the ground and pound effectively.
quaker tries to control the position but mastiff now has his back.

mastiff lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can quaker hold on?!

quaker manages to reverse the position and now he's in mastiff's guard. Nice work there by quaker.
mastiff has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

mastiff is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst quaker is controlling him.

dave mastiff showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

mastiff decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

jeff quaker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

quaker has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. mastiff is working away from the top position though.
quaker moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
mastiff passes quaker's left leg - he's now in half guard.

mastiff wants to get up but he can't break quaker's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

dave mastiff comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well mastiff has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
