PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Zola Jumper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shane O Neill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Zola Jumper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Shane O Neill!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Andrew Berry and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
O Neill swings and misses with a hook to the body.

O Neill closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - O Neill lands in his opponent's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
O Neill stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jumper swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jumper throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
O Neill's corner is telling him to maintain position.
O Neill's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
O Neill is pushing down on Jumper's leg trying to pass to half guard. Jumper is fighting to maintain full guard but O Neill has managed to sneak the leg through.
O Neill looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Jumper is trying to stand back up but O Neill is controlling him

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jumper blocking the ground and pound attempt from O Neill.
O Neill tries to pass to full mount but Jumper defends it.
O Neill performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jumper tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but O Neill paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Jumper throws a head kick but O Neill moves out of range.
Jumper with a poor takedown

and O Neill counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Jumper's guard now.
O Neill wants to control from the top but Jumper keeps moving.
O Neill controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Jumper looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Jumper not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
O Neill stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jumper swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
O Neill wants to control from the top but Jumper keeps moving.
Jumper is breathing heavily.
O Neill pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jumper is keeping the position for now.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Jumper can't keep his opponent in guard - O Neill advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
O Neill content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Jumper wants to get back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
O Neill passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Jumper!
O Neill controlling the pace for now.
O Neill avoids the attempt from Jumper to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
O Neill looking to control but Jumper is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shane O Neill dominated that round.
That's time! Jumper's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


O Neill goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Jumper doesn't succeed with the takedown

and O Neill counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Jumper is trying to keep O Neill in close.
O Neill throwing strikes from guard but Jumper blocks nicely.
O Neill sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Jumper's guard.
O Neill looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jumper is trying to stand up here but O Neill is controlling him well.
O Neill missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

O Neill stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Jumper to get to his feet.

O Neill drives through with a takedown into guard.
O Neill stands and throws Jumper's legs to the side, diving into side control.

O Neill is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jumper has escaped the position, nice work there.
Jumper gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
O Neill takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
O Neill landing shots from mount.
O Neill cracks Jumper with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
O Neill postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Jumper looks a forlorn figure.
O Neill controlling from mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
O Neill lands with some strikes.
O Neill controlling the position easily from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Despite being in the dominant position, Shane O Neill just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

O Neill clinches with his opponent.
O Neill jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Jumper walks away with a smile on his face. O Neill gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

O Neill tries to keep at a distance but Jumper has taken the fight into the clinch.
O Neill is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Jumper's face as he tries to break the clinch.

O Neill gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Jumper regains guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
O Neill is looking to work some ground and pound but Jumper has wrist control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shane O Neill showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Jumper has his takedown stuffed

and O Neill counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
O Neill looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
O Neill throws a strike but Jumper avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
O Neill's corner is telling him to maintain position.
O Neill is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
O Neill tries to free his leg and advance position but Jumper is retaining full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jumper is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst O Neill is controlling him.
Jumper will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
O Neill scoring with punches to the head and body.
O Neill pushes down on Jumper's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Jumper has hold of O Neill's hands but O Neill slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
O Neill tries to pass to full mount but Jumper defends it.
Still in half guard, O Neill seems content to control.
O Neill passes to side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jumper is trying to escape the position but O Neill is controlling the position.
Jumper can't do much from the bottom here.
Jumper is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
O Neill wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jumper keeps working.
Jumper seems a little lost for a moment, as O Neill dominates the positioning.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
O Neill lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Jumper down.
O Neill cracks Jumper with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Jumper prevents O Neill from moving into mount.
O Neill is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
O Neill has knee on belly and moves into mount.
O Neill controlling the pace for now.
O Neill looking to finish Jumper with some ground and pound. This is bad for Jumper!
Shane O Neill is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
O Neill controlling the pace for now.

And that's the end of the fight!
Shane O Neill comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got O Neill winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
