PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Leon Czolgosz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dennis Turcotte (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Leon Czolgosz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dennis Turcotte!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Turcotte keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Dennis Turcotte seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Turcotte looks to score with a jab to the body but Czolgosz is just out of range.
Turcotte swinging wildly here.

Turcotte showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Czolgosz.
Czolgosz stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Turcotte.
Czolgosz shoots in and drives through. Turcotte sprawls well.
Turcotte tries to close the distance and clinch up but Czolgosz swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Turcotte throws a leg kick which misses Czolgosz's front leg but catches the back leg as Czolgosz tries to avoid it.
Czolgosz fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Turcotte avoids it really well and circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Leon Czolgosz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Turcotte. Czolgosz shrugs it off though.
Czolgosz chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Turcotte can pounce on him.
Czolgosz dodges the punch combination from Turcotte.

Czolgosz shoots in and bounces Turcotte off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Czolgosz drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Turcotte manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Czolgosz has Turcotte in his guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Turcotte postures up in Czolgosz's guard and throws a big left but Czolgosz blocks it.
Turcotte loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Turcotte drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Czolgosz manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Turcotte has Czolgosz in his guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Czolgosz postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Turcotte is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Czolgosz, into his guard.

Turcotte is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Czolgosz is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Czolgosz has escaped and now he's on top!

That was a close round but I would say that Leon Czolgosz will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Czolgosz shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Turcotte sprawls well. Turcotte wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Czolgosz gets slowly back to his feet.

Turcotte has gone for a leg lock! Czolgosz slips out almost immediately though and dives into Turcotte's guard.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Leon Czolgosz just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Turcotte thows a big elbow that misses.

Turcotte drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Czolgosz dives on top into guard.

Dennis Turcotte showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Czolgosz fails with the takedown
and Turcotte counters with a slapping leg kick.

Turcotte shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Czolgosz's guard.
Czolgosz manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Turcotte manages to get himself to full guard.
Turcotte wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Czolgosz manages to pass to side control.
Turcotte is refusing to be controlled, as Czolgosz sits in half guard.

Czolgosz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Turcotte keeps working.
Turcotte is looking to get back to is feet but Czolgosz passes into side control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Czolgosz is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Turcotte is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Turcotte is trying to buck Czolgosz off.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Czolgosz goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Turcotte has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Czolgosz but great work by Turcotte.
Czolgosz is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Turcotte's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Turcotte not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Turcotte passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Turcotte wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Czolgosz, who protects the arm well.
Czolgosz tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Turcotte wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Leon Czolgosz.
I think Czolgosz has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
