Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jesus Gouveia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sloppy Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jesus Gouveia has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jesus Gouveia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sloppy Joe!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Alec Ball and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gouveia showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Joe.

Gouveia looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Gouveia takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Gouveia has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Joe is looking to improve his position.
Joe pushes Gouveia off looking to stand but Gouveia dives back in and keeps control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Joe can do anything to dispel that myth.
Joe missing with punches from the bottom.
Joe wants to get back to his feet.
Gouveia trying to control the pace.

Joe wants to get back to full guard but Gouveia has passed into side control.
Joe sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Gouveia looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Joe looks like he's trying to stand up.

Gouveia with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Gouveia frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Joe is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Gouveia sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jesus Gouveia just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Joe swinging wildly here.
Joe is looking to clinch.
Gouveia will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Joe misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Joe has his takedown stuffed

and Gouveia counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Joe looks gassed!

Joe is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gouveia is aware though and is defending well.
Gouveia forces his way into half guard.

Gouveia uses his free foot to push down on Joe's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Joe.

Joe is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Gouveia shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Joe pinned against the cage. Joe gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
A combination from Joe does no damage.
Joe jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Joe misses with a body kick.
Gouveia slips under a jab.
Sloppy Joe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gouveia will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Joe is breathing heavily.
Joe tries to clinch but Gouveia is having none of it.
Joe does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

and Gouveia decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Joe's guard.

Gouveia sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Joe's guard.
Gouveia moves into full mount! Joe won't be happy about that!
Joe trying desperately to get to his feet.
Gouveia content just to control the position here.
Joe wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Gouveia controlling his opponent.

Gouveia has control of Joe's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Joe regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Joe tries to buck Gouveia off but he can't manage it.

Joe is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Gouveia controlling the position easily from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gouveia seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Joe for as long as he can get away with.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jesus Gouveia just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Gouveia.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jesus Gouveia. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Joe is looking to clinch.
Joe throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Joe swinging wildly here.
Joe keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Joe lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gouveia circles away quickly and effectively.
Gouveia dodges the punch combination from Joe.
Gouveia is trying hard to land a takedown here. Joe sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Gouveia slips a straight right by Joe.
Joe tries to clinch there but Gouveia circles away.
Gouveia has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Gouveia there as he acknowledges the shot.
Joe throws a low kick but Gouveia avoids it.
Joe takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gouveia fails with a takedown attempt.

and Gouveia decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Joe's guard.

Gouveia is pushing down on Joe's leg trying to pass to half guard. Joe is fighting to maintain full guard but Gouveia has managed to sneak the leg through.
Joe is trying to escape back to his feet but Gouveia uses the scramble to pass into side control.
The referee asks Gouveia politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Gouveia prefers to stall for the moment though.
Gouveia works to advance to full mount. Joe defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Gouveia controlling the pace for now.
Joe tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Gouveia controlling his opponent.

Joe is desperately trying to improve his position but Gouveia has a good base and remains in mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gouveia sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Joe tries to reverse the position but Gouveia maintains control.

Gouveia is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Joe is forced to tap! Great finish!
