PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gary Landonson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nathan Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Landonson comes to the cage accompanied by AM/PM. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gary Landonson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nathan Scott!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Elvis Blanc and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Scott closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Scott lands in his opponent's guard.
Scott must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Scott wants to pass the guard but Landonson is keeping the position.

Landonson pushes Scott off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Scott bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Scott trying to control the position but Landonson is working away.

Scott wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Landonson, who protects the arm well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Landonson pushes Scott away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Scott gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Landonson gets back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Scott misses with a head shot. Landonson uses the momentum to regain guard.
Scott controls from within his opponent's guard.
Scott stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Landonson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Scott won't allow Landonson to get back to his feet.
Scott tries to free his leg and advance position but Landonson is retaining full guard.
Scott trying to control the position from guard on top but Landonson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Landonson is trying to keep Scott in close.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Landonson cracks the inside of Scott's front leg.

Scott takes the fight into the clinch.
Scott tries for a takedown. No joy.
With the fighters up against the cage, Scott throws an elbow but misses.
Landonson connects with a knee to the head.

Landonson pulls Scott into guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Landonson is on top in guard.
Scott has a closed guard, preventing Landonson from standing up.
Scott is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Scott controls Landonson momentarily but Landonson frees himself.

Scott looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Landonson passes into half guard.

Scott has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Landonson is working away from the top position though.
Scott is looking to improve his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Scott shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Landonson's guard.

Scott stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Scott shoots in for a takedown but Landonson shows good takedown defense.

Scott darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Scott slows the pace down in half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Scott connects with a nice short shot to Landonson's temple.
Scott is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nathan Scott dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Landonson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Landonson scores with a hook.
Scott shoots in looking for a takedown. Landonson tries to sprawl out of it but Scott keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Landonson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Landonson looks to land a combination but Scott avoids it well.
Landonson wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Landonson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Scott.
Landonson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Scott feints and as Landonson raises his hands in defense, Scott changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Scott has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Landonson is proving hard to escape from.
Scott looking to sit in guard and control but Landonson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Scott tries to roll over but Landonson keeps him under control.
Scott is looking to control Landonson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Scott avoid being mounted?

Scott desperately trying to maintain half guard.

Scott looking for submissions off his back.
Landonson wants to stand up but Scott has a hold of him and won't allow it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Scott missing with punches from the bottom.

Scott looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Landonson lands a nice short elbow.
Scott tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Landonson has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Landonson avoids the attempt from Scott to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Landonson tries to push Scott's head away but Scott is holding on tight.
Nathan Scott has got the better of the ground game so far.
Landonson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Scott is looking to escape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Gary Landonson will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Scott has gone for a leg lock! Landonson slips out almost immediately though and dives into Scott's guard.

Scott had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Landonson is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Scott Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Landonson's back instead.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Landonson staying busy and making it hard for Scott to control.
Even with his hooks in, Scott manages to miss with strikes from the back.

Scott is riding his opponent, not letting Landonson buck him off.

Despite being in the dominant position, Nathan Scott just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Scott feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Landonson is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Landonson is trying to maintain a safe position but Scott gets an underhook and turns Landonson into the cage.
Scott is working for takedown but Landonson is calmly controlling the position for now.
Landonson lands an elbow that stopped Scott in his tracks for a moment.
Landonson prevents a takedown attempt there.
Scott is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Landonson in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Landonson decides to stand up, so the ref orders Scott to his feet.
Landonson lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Landonson.
Scott shoots in and drives through. Landonson sprawls well.
Gary Landonson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nathan Scott.
Landonson avoids a punch combination nicely.
Landonson throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

And that's the end of the fight!
Nathan Scott comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Scott has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
