PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nick Cocoa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Odis Dixey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dixey has chosen Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song as his entrance music. Nick Cocoa has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nick Cocoa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Odis Dixey!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Dillan Fox and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dixey shoots in but no luck this time.
Dixey fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Dixey.
Nick Cocoa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Odis Dixey.
Dixey shoots in for a takedown but Cocoa shows good takedown defense.
Cocoa lunges at Dixey with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Dixey's hand.


It looks like Odis Dixey has been cut.
Dixey changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cocoa tries to avoid it but Dixey manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cocoa to the ground. Cocoa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Cocoa wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Dixey avoids the body shot from Cocoa.
Dixey fails with an attempt to clinch.
Dixey shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cocoa sprawls well. Cocoa wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Dixey gets slowly back to his feet.
Dixey will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Dixey looks gassed!

Cocoa fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Dixey shoots for a takedown but Cocoa saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
The fight stays on the outside here - Dixey looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Cocoa sizes up Dixey with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Cocoa pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Cocoa displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Dixey.
Dixey moves out of range of the body kick.

Dixey fails with the takedown.
Dixey fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Cocoa closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Cocoa tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Dixey tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Cocoa works to advance to full mount. Dixey defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Dixey is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Cocoa is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Dixey has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Dixey!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Cocoa is trying to control the action in half guard but Dixey is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Cocoa is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Dixey has managed to free his arm - good work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Dixey takes the fight into the clinch.
Cocoa gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Dixey.
Cocoa is trying to stall.
Dixey is trying to maintain a safe position but Cocoa gets an underhook and turns Dixey into the cage.

Cocoa breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Odis Dixey is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Dixey throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Dixey darts in trying to clinch
and Cocoa connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Cocoa paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Cocoa feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Cocoa drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Dixey dives on top into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cocoa is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Cocoa is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Cocoa works his way into full mount!

Cocoa moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Dixey has worked his arm free - good work by Dixey!
Dixey wants to control but Cocoa postures up.
Dixey wants to get back to his feet but Cocoa drags him back down.
Cocoa wants to control for a moment but Dixey uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Cocoa's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Cocoa throws a half hearted mid kick.
Cocoa tries to land a front kick but Dixey steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Cocoa throws out a powerful jab.
Jab, jab by Cocoa - just one landing.
Dixey shoots and misses
and Cocoa counters with a left to the body.
Cocoa scores with a nice right hand.
Dixey gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Cocoa counters with a nice double leg into side control. Dixey won't be happy with that.
Dixey takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Dixey tries to escape but Cocoa is in control.

Dixey is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Cocoa is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cocoa wants to control the pace but Dixey is squirming around nicely.
Dixey manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Cocoa is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Dixey must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Dixey scores with a one two! Cocoa had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Cocoa changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Dixey looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Dixey tries to control but Cocoa manages to take his back.
Dixey has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Cocoa controlling the positon.

Nick Cocoa showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cocoa, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
