PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David Stapleton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dean Stevens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dean Stevens told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Dean Stevens!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Andrew Berry and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stapleton closes the distance and clinches.

Stevens pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Stapleton shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Stevens defends it nicely.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Stapleton is defended easily by Stevens.
Stapleton has a takedown stuffed.

Stevens thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Stapleton if he has to take too many more of those.

Stevens forces Stapleton back against the cage and clinches.

Stevens goes for a takedown attempt but Stapleton pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Stevens shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Stapleton is trying to defend but Stevens finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The fighters are battling for position here. Stapleton manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Stevens looks gassed!

Stevens trying to control the position from guard on top but Stapleton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Stevens is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Stapleton has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Stevens off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Stapleton closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Stevens prevents Stapleton from moving into mount.

Stapleton seems to be looking for submissions.
Stevens is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stevens moves into full guard.

Stapleton prevents Stevens from getting back to his feet.
Stapleton controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Stevens is pulling down on Stapleton's head to control his posture.

Stevens controls Stapleton momentarily but Stapleton frees himself.
Stevens keeping moving, preventing Stapleton from controlling successfully.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Stevens lands with a thumping leg kick.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Stevens lands with a light punch inside.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Stevens tries to land knees in the clinch but Stapleton avoids the damage to the body.
Stapleton tries for a takedown but Stevens manages to get underhooks.

Stevens stops a takedown attempt from Stapleton.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Stapleton pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Stapleton circles away from the clinch attempt
and Stapleton counters with a series of strikes. Stevens will be more careful next time no doubt.
Stevens connects with a high kick.
Stevens misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Stapleton is looking to clinch but Stevens is avoiding it.
Stevens pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Stevens shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Stevens postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Stapleton looks a forlorn figure.

That's nine minutes gone in the round.
Stevens tries to control but Stapleton wriggling away.
Stevens might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Stapleton kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Stapleton manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Stapleton wants to get back to his feet.
Stevens looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Stapleton wants to get back to full guard.

Dean Stevens comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Stevens has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
