PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Davis Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Layen Pray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Davis Black!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Layen Pray!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Black misses with a low kick.
Pray shoots in looking for a takedown. Black tries to sprawl out of it but Pray keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Black manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Black throws a front kick aimed at Pray's knee but Pray avoids it well.
Pray circles away from the clinch attempt.
Black digs a good body shot into Pray's ribs.
Donk. Black catches Pray right on the button with a cross.
Davis Black seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pray dodges the punch combination from Black.
Pray fails to land the takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Black lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Pray backs up against the cage.
Black scores with a one two! Pray had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Pray on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Black turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Black lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Black lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Black clinches up against the cage.
Black stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Pray drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Black gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Davis Black has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Layen Pray.
A left hand lands to the body for Black.
Pray jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Black walks away with a smile on his face. Pray gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Black scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Black.
Pray managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Black.
Pray defending against the ground and pound.
Pray is trying to control Black's posture but Black avoids it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Black misses with the ground and pound.
Pray trying to control but Black flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!
Black loading up with punches from the back mount - how long can Pray hold on?
Black scores with strikes from the back.
Black lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Black thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
Pray really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Black. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Black struggling to land strikes to the head as Pray covers up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Black is looking to finish with some ground and pound!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Pray covering up well under a barage of strikes.
Black is punishing Pray with strikes - can he finish him?!
Black punishes Pray with strikes from the back mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pray rolls, trying to escape but Black keeps control of the position.

Black looking to break Pray's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Pray remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Black will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Black is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Pray. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.
Black lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.

Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Black.

Black is working for a rear naked choke. Pray is not defending it well and Black has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Pray refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Pray's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Davis Black!
