PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Charles Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Artur Szpilka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Charles Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Artur Szpilka!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Daniel Blasius and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Szpilka takes a kick to the side of the head.

Szpilka shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Szpilka trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom.

Szpilka decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jones, up you get!

Szpilka drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Szpilka decides to stand back up. Szpilka steps back and let's Jones get back to his feet.
Jones cracks Szpilka with a good jab.
Szpilka changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jones tries to avoid it but Szpilka manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jones to the ground. Jones escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Jones closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Szpilka is trying to get back to half guard.
Szpilka manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Szpilka prevents Jones from standing back up.

Szpilka is working for a submission of some sort.
Szpilka looks gassed!

Szpilka looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Szpilka wants to pass to mount but Jones is defending the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Szpilka is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jones is just riding it out for now. Szpilka eventually gives up the hold.
Jones on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Jones tries to get out of the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Jones drives through and clinches with Szpilka against the cage.

Jones lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Jones lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Szpilka has hold of Jones's hands but Jones slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Szpilka avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Jones.

Jones thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Szpilka's head.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Szpilka closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Jones to the mat! Jones manages to get full guard.
Szpilka wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.

Jones is working an open guard so Szpilka takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Szpilka avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Szpilka gets a takedown into half guard.

Szpilka decides to stand up.

and Szpilka counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Jones's guard now.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Szpilka won't allow Jones to get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Szpilka throws a big right hand that misses.
Jones is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Jones tries a head kick but it misses.

Jones closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Szpilka to the mat! Szpilka manages to get full guard.
Szpilka is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Jones is working Szpilka over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Szpilka thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Szpilka lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Jones!
Jones is squirming around, avoiding Szpilka's attempts to control the action.

Jones knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Szpilka on the ground.

Szpilka jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Jones is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Jones and Szpilka has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Charles Jones is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Szpilka darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Szpilka not doing much here.

Szpilka wants to work for an arm triangle but Jones is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Artur Szpilka has got the better of the ground game so far.

Szpilka is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Jones's half guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close second round but I would say that Charles Jones will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Szpilka is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Jones off and has taken his back!
Szpilka really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Jones.

Szpilka looking for the choke but no joy.

Jones is trying to get back to his feet but Szpilka has full control of the position and if anything, Jones has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Szpilka trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.

Szpilka patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

Artur Szpilka comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Szpilka has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
