PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rodrigo Reis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Glenardo Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reis comes to the cage accompanied by Blood Brothers. The key to victory for Rodrigo Reis has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rodrigo Reis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Glenardo Silva!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Luis Engracia and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Reis gets caught flat footed, as Silva shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Silva thows a big elbow that misses.
Silva trying to control but Reis is working from the bottom.
Reis is controlling Silva's posture.
Reis looking to hit a scissor sweep but Silva is one step ahead there.
Silva trying to control the position from guard on top but Reis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Silva is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Silva postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Silva wants to control from the top but Reis keeps moving.
Silva looking to sit in guard and control but Reis gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Reis has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Silva is proving hard to escape from.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Reis connects with a right hand. Silva shakes it off.
Silva throws a series of punches but Reis avoids them all with ease.
A looping hook to the body misses from Reis. Silva does a little dance to reset his feet.
Silva throws a sloppy head kick and Reis moves out of range easily.
Rodrigo Reis is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Reis looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Silva lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Reis backs up against the cage.
Reis jabbing away but nothing is landing.
A swing and a miss from Silva.
Silva fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Reis manages to avoid it.
Reis throws a left and a right that both miss

and Silva counters with a shoot takedown. Reis fights it but they end up in guard.
Silva controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Silva pushing down on Reis's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Silva is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Reis trying to hold on to Silva's head to control him but Silva postures up.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Silva thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Reis's head.
Silva has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Silva moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Reis has worked his arm free - good work by Reis!
Reis wants to control but Silva postures up.
Silva trying to control the action but Reis is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Silva is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Reis is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Silva throwing shots but missing, from side control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Reis is looking to reverse the position.
Silva misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Silva staying calm.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Silva throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Silva uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Reis.
Reis lands an overhand right.

Silva shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Silva is trying to control here but Reis has managed to regain half guard.
Reis is looking for a sweep. Silva is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Silva shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Silva has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Reis is controlling Silva's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Silva wants to take a breather but Reis is having none of it.

Silva is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

enabling Silva to counter with a crisp jab.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Silva throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Reis was covering up waiting for the punch and Silva finishes the takedown easily into guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Reis utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Reis has control of Silva's left arm, preventing Silva from doing any damage.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Reis uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Silva.
Silva slips under a jab.
Silva misses with a two punch combination.

Silva looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Reis!
Silva lands a heavy elbow.

Reis defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Silva.

Glenardo Silva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Reis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Reis missing with a left hand there. Silva was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Reis displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Silva throws out the jab.
Reis cracks Silva with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

and Silva counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Reis looks to throw the jab but Silva is out of range.

Silva jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Silva lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Silva on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Silva slips a jab and a cross from Reis.
Reis scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Silva lands with a thumping leg kick.
Silva lands a jab.

Silva closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Reis did well to prevent Silva getting side control.

Silva drops an elbow to the side of Reis's head.

Silva is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Reis sees it coming and defends easily.
Silva lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Silva is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Reis gets back to full guard.

Reis is pulling down on Silva's head to control his posture.
Silva chips away with some ground and pound.
Silva wants to control from the top but Reis keeps moving.
Silva sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Reis's guard.
Silva wants to control but Reis is keeping him busy.
Silva lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Silva slows the pace down in half guard.

Reis gets back to full guard.
Silva throwing strikes but missing.
Reis preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Silva wants to control from the top but Reis keeps moving.
Reis keeping full guard, as Silva tries to pass.

Silva drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Reis dives on top into guard.
Silva is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Rodrigo Reis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Reis drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Reis jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Silva is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Silva is on top in guard.

Silva avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Silva is working Reis over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Glenardo Silva comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Silva has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
