PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jimbo Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Jay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson comes to the cage accompanied by Amos Moses - Jerry Reed. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jimbo Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Jay!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Tiny Johnson and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson tries to clinch up.
Jay throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Jay fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Johnson manages to avoid it.
Jay misses with a few strikes there.
Jay lands a head shot.
A combination from Jay does no damage.
Jay tries to bum rush Johnson with a series of wild strikes but Johnson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Jay comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Johnson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Jay throws a right hand that Johnson ducks under and follows up with a left that Johnson also avoids with ease.
Johnson tries to clinch but Jay is having none of it.
Jay swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Johnson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Jay moves away.
Jay throws a leg kick but Johnson sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Johnson throws a lazy right hand but Jay sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Johnson shoots in but Jay avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Jay, right into the meat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jay misses with a few strikes there.
Jay throws a nice looking combination but Johnson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Jay looks gassed!
Jay misses with a jab, cross combination.
Jay walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
A slapping leg kick lands for Jay.
The fight stays on the outside here - Johnson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Johnson tries to clinch up but Jay circles away and keeps his distance.
James Jay is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Jay looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Jay throws a right and a left that Johnson avoids nicely.
Johnson moves in looking to clinch but Jay pushes him off.

Johnson looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Jay!

Johnson unloads with some shots from mount but Jay bucks and avoids them well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Johnson throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Jay is squirming around, avoiding Johnson's attempts to control the action.

Johnson with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Jay really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johnson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Johnson looking to ground and pound but Jay is blocking nicely.

You get the feeling that Jay really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Johnson is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Jay has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Jay!

Johnson lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Jay!
Johnson lands a big shot there that rocks Jay but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Johnson goes for an armbar but Jay turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Jay.
Johnson wants to sweep but no luck.

Jay is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Johnson has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Jay is looking to defend but Johnson has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Jay! Johnson pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Jay taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Jimbo Johnson!
