PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Atilla Leopoldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Philip Drinker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Drinker has chosen Psycho Killer as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Philip Drinker will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Atilla Leopoldo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Philip Drinker!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Felipe Paraventi and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drinker stuffs the takedown attempt from Leopoldo. Leopoldo gets slowly back to his feet.
Drinker has his takedown stuffed

and Leopoldo counters with a nice double leg into side control. Drinker won't be happy with that.
Drinker is looking to regain half guard here but Leopoldo keeps moving and retains side control.

and Leopoldo counters with a nice double leg into side control. Drinker won't be happy with that.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
You can see the frustration on Drinker's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Drinker is pushing Leopoldo's head away, looking to escape. Leopoldo manages to hold on to the position though.

Drinker is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Leopoldo asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

and Leopoldo counters by moving into the clinch.

Drinker has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Leopoldo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Leopoldo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Drinker manages to get himself to full guard.

Drinker working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Leopoldo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Leopoldo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Drinker is looking to improve his position but Leopoldo isn't that keen on the idea.

Leopoldo seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Drinker for as long as he can get away with.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Drinker can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Leopoldo is looking to escape.

Drinker goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Leopoldo turns into him and now he's in Drinker's guard.

Drinker is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Drinker is keen to just control but Leopoldo is a slippery customer.

Drinker has control of Leopoldo's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Leopoldo regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Leopoldo has hold of Drinker's arm. He needs to escape this position sooner or later but for now he's happy enough to control the position and prevent the submission attempts.
