The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Alston looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Smith gets caught flat footed, as Alston shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Smith had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Alston is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Smith Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Alston's back instead.
Alston breaks Smith's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Smith working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Alston doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Smith is tightening it up a little... Alston has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Alston reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Alston taps out! nice BJJ there by Smith!
