PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gay Al (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Butt Reynolds (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Gay Al has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gay Al!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Butt Reynolds!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Thiago Cunha and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Al changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Reynolds looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Reynolds regains half guard there - taking advantage of Al's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Reynolds is staying active underneath Al, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Al is looking to advance position but Reynolds won't allow it.
Al passes to full mount!

Al goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Reynolds is on top in guard.
Al looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Al managing to control the position.
Reynolds must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Reynolds distracts Al with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Al working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Reynolds doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Reynolds manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Al is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Reynolds is controlling him.
Al is breathing heavily.
Al tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Al has his foot on Reynolds's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Reynolds works his way back into a safe position though.

Reynolds is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Reynolds drops back looking for a leg! Al is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Al manages to kick Reynolds off! Reynolds jumps back into Al's guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Reynolds stops Al from standing up.
Al is trying to control the position but Reynolds postures up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Reynolds gets caught flat footed, as Al shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Al avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Reynolds tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Al slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Al trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gay Al dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Al misses with a takedown attempt - Reynolds sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Reynolds gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Al sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Al looking to sit in guard and control but Reynolds gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Al wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Al has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Reynolds can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Al wants to sweep here but Reynolds controlling him for the moment.
Reynolds throwing strikes but missing.

Al working for submissions but it's allowed Reynolds to get to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Reynolds prevents Al from standing back up.
Al is trying to maintain the position but Reynolds is very close to passing his half guard.
Al is trying to control but Reynolds passes into side control!
Al pushes Reynolds away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Reynolds gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Reynolds passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Al!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Al is working to get back to half guard.
A nice elbow there by Reynolds.

Reynolds wants to finish this one by submission but Al is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Reynolds.
Al tries to hold on but Reynolds pushes him away.
Reynolds prevents Al from getting the reversal.
Al is working hard here to advance position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Al wants to control but Reynolds is having none of it.
Al is wriggling around trying to escape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Gay Al will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Al has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Reynolds to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Al is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Reynolds pulls down on the head and he's put Al to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:01 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Butt Reynolds!
