PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nolan Sugarlo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ian McCluskey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sugarlo's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, 'Till I Collapse. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Nolan Sugarlo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ian McCluskey!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Aleksandr Martynov and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sugarlo misses with a wild combination.

Sugarlo closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

McCluskey tries to circle away but Sugarlo has him pinned against the cage.

It looks like Ian McCluskey has been cut.
Sugarlo misses with a punch on the inside.
Sugarlo wants a takedown.
McCluskey tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
A left hand lands to the body for Sugarlo.
McCluskey gets underhooks to prevent Sugarlo's takedown attempt.
Sugarlo misses with some punches.
McCluskey is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
McCluskey blocks an uppercut.
Sugarlo lands a left hand.

McCluskey tries to land a knee to the head but Sugarlo blocks with his arms.
McCluskey has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Sugarlo is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Sugarlo wants the takedown. McCluskey is fighting it off but Sugarlo persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in McCluskey's guard against the cage.
Sugarlo is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
McCluskey looks gassed!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sugarlo works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Sugarlo wants to pass to mount but McCluskey is defending the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sugarlo in particular looking to stall.
McCluskey tries to kick Sugarlo off but Sugarlo keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
McCluskey won't allow Sugarlo to pass to mount.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Sugarlo content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nolan Sugarlo dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Ian McCluskey's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Sugarlo throws a right and a left that both miss.

McCluskey has managed to clinch.
McCluskey is trying to break the clinch but Sugarlo has him pressed against the cage.
Sugarlo lands a nice uppercut.
A right hook to the body lands for Sugarlo.
Sugarlo doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Sugarlo is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. McCluskey can't fight it off and eventually Sugarlo manages to take the fight to the floor. McCluskey looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
McCluskey can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sugarlo controls the pace.

McCluskey wants to get back to his feet but Sugarlo is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Nolan Sugarlo just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Sugarlo fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. McCluskey sprawls well initially but Sugarlo persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nolan Sugarlo dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Ian McCluskey's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

The referee stands the fighters back up. Nolan Sugarlo just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
McCluskey wants to clinch but Sugarlo slips to the side

and Sugarlo holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Still in the clinch, Sugarlo scores with a nice short uppercut.
McCluskey blocks a punch to the side of the head.

McCluskey tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Sugarlo lands a right hand that snaps the head of McCluskey backwards.

McCluskey successfully pulls guard.
Sugarlo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McCluskey swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Sugarlo not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Sugarlo seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down McCluskey for as long as he can get away with.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sugarlo prevents McCluskey from getting back to his feet.
Sugarlo seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sugarlo's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

McCluskey breaks from the clinch.
Sugarlo ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
McCluskey tries a head kick but it misses.
Ian McCluskey has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
McCluskey takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

and Sugarlo counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Sugarlo.

McCluskey blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Sugarlo scores with an uppercut up the middle.
McCluskey misses with a knee to the head.
Sugarlo goes for a takedown attempt but McCluskey pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Sugarlo lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but McCluskey circles away quickly and effectively.

And that's the end of the fight!
Nolan Sugarlo showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sugarlo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
