PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Charlie Bronson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Smithsonian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnny Smithsonian told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Charlie Bronson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnny Smithsonian!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smithsonian lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Bronson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Smithsonian was well out of range. Poor timing from Bronson.
Bronson looks to score with a jab to the body but Smithsonian is just out of range.
A looping hook to the body misses from Bronson. Smithsonian does a little dance to reset his feet.
Bronson takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Smithsonian takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Smithsonian moves into range and clinches up with Bronson.
Smithsonian is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Bronson gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Bronson wants to break free but Smithsonian has control.
Bronson wants to get back to striking at distance but Smithsonian won't allow it.
Bronson tries to break the clinch but Smithsonian is controlling the position.
Bronson working hard to break the clinch.
Bronson is trying to break the clinch but Smithsonian has him pressed against the cage.
Bronson gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Smithsonian.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Bronson misses with a short punch on the inside.
Smithsonian fails to pull guard.
Charlie Bronson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny Smithsonian.

Bronson breaks the clinch.
Bronson throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Smithsonian sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Smithsonian throws a leg kick but Bronson sees it coming and checks it nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bronson connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Smithsonian's hands.

Smithsonian gets a clinch.
Bronson lands a left hand that snaps the head of Smithsonian backwards.
Bronson stops a takedown attempt from Smithsonian.
Smithsonian is working for takedown but Bronson is calmly controlling the position for now.
Smithsonian goes for a takedown in the clinch but Bronson prevents it.
Smithsonian wants a takedown but no success here.

Bronson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Charlie Bronson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Bronson throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Smithsonian fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Bronson loads up on a big right hand but Smithsonian slips the punch.
Smithsonian throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Smithsonian takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Smithsonian closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Bronson did well to prevent Smithsonian getting side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Smithsonian misses with a head shot. Bronson uses the momentum to regain guard.
Smithsonian slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smithsonian looks gassed!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bronson dodges the ground and pound from Smithsonian.
Bronson is not content to let Smithsonian control the position.
Bronson is looking for a sweep.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Smithsonian is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Bronson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Smithsonian working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Bronson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Smithsonian in side control, throwing shots but Bronson defends.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
An inside leg kick lands from Bronson.
Bronson misses with a hook.
A slow jab from Bronson misses its intended target.
Bronson fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Smithsonian.
Bronson connects with a right hand. Smithsonian shakes it off.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bronson Rushes Smithsonian and starts throwing punches like they are going out of style! Smithsonian is up against the cage and has nowhere to go. Bronson Piles on the pressure and Smithsonian crumples to the floor! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:02 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Charlie Bronson!
