PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alan Ashcroft (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wally Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Williams is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Safety Dance by Men Without Hats. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alan Ashcroft!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Wally Williams!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Lou da Vinci and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ashcroft tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Williams is able to avoid easily.
Ashcroft takes a kick to the side of the head.
Ashcroft looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Williams is fending him off so far but Ashcroft persists. Nope, Williams circles away and we're back to standing.
Williams tries a head kick but it misses.
Ashcroft shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Williams fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Ashcroft checks it well.

Ashcroft darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Ashcroft tries to stand and escape but Williams is controlling the position.
Williams trying to get back to full guard but Ashcroft takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Williams is looking to get to half guard.

Ashcroft jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Williams manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Williams wants to get back to his feet but Ashcroft drags him back down.
Williams gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Williams flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.

Ashcroft seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Williams for as long as he can get away with.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ashcroft really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Williams tries to strike from the bottom but misses.
Williams takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Williams manages to work his way to half guard, despite Ashcroft's best efforts.

Ashcroft keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Ashcroft has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Williams looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Ashcroft seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Alan Ashcroft just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Ashcroft shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Ashcroft was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

The referee warns Williams that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Well, if Ashcroft is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Williams throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Alan Ashcroft is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Ashcroft closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ashcroft lands in his opponent's guard.
Williams doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Williams is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Williams is breathing heavily.

Williams is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ashcroft is aware though and is defending well.
Ashcroft has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Ashcroft stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Williams swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ashcroft in particular looking to stall.
Alan Ashcroft overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Williams throws a solid leg kick but Ashcroft takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Williams.

Ashcroft shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Ashcroft wants to pass to mount but Williams is defending the position.
Williams wants to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Williams takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Williams is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Ashcroft off and has taken his back!
Ashcroft really must keep his cool here. He's controlling one of Williams's hands and whilst he does that, he's got a chance of escaping the position.
Ashcroft manages to reverse the position and now he's in Williams's guard. Nice work there by Ashcroft.
Ashcroft is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Alan Ashcroft is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Ashcroft closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Wally Williams has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ashcroft, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
