Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gar Diu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kanbei Shimada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diu's entrance music is Song of Manliness. A fine choice. Shimada has chosen Party and Bullshit as his entrance music. Kanbei Shimada has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Gar Diu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kanbei Shimada!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diu throws a front kick aimed at Shimada's knee but Shimada avoids it well.
Shimada defending well as Diu loads up on a big left hand.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Diu lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Shimada has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Shimada and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Diu cracks Shimada with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Shimada throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Shimada comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Kanbei Shimada seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shimada connects with a crisp jab.
Shimada closes the distance and clinches up with Diu, looking for a takedown. Shimada pushes Diu against the cage but Diu circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Shimada shoots in looking for a takedown. Diu tries to sprawl out of it but Shimada keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Diu manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Shimada shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Diu is trying to defend but Shimada finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Diu is staying active underneath Shimada, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Diu is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Shimada scores with a couple of nice shots.
Shimada winds up and cracks Diu with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Diu is trying to get back to full guard.
Shimada has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Shimada thows a huge punch but Diu dodges it nicely.

Shimada is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Diu sees it coming and defends easily.
Shimada thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Diu's head.
Diu wants to control but Shimada is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Shimada is pressing down on Diu's thigh, looking to free his foot. Diu is holding on for now.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Diu motions for Shimada to come forward. Diu throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Shimada, right into the meat.
Shimada throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Diu counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Shimada darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Shimada bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Shimada is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Diu knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Shimada throws a strike aimed at the side of Diu's head but Diu avoids it well.

Shimada wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Diu, who protects the arm well.

Diu tries to bench press Shimada off him but Shimada keeps the position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Diu is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Shimada has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Diu is trying to get back to half guard.

Diu tries to escape but Shimada is in control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shimada tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Shimada has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Shimada connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Diu some visible discomfort.
Shimada wants to lay and pray for a moment but Diu keeps working.

Shimada is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Diu has escaped the position, nice work there.

Diu parries the strikes from Shimada easily there. Shimada is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Diu to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kanbei Shimada dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Shimada throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Shimada scores with a punch to the head.
Diu misses the shot to the body.
Diu misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Shimada.

Shimada shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Diu's guard.

Shimada throws and elbow that misses. Diu uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Shimada's guard. Nice move by Diu!

Shimada is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Diu decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Shimada, up you get!

Shimada is breathing heavily.
Diu misses with a low kick.
Shimada steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Diu. That one must have hurt.

Diu comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

and Shimada counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Diu shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Shimada feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Diu controls Shimada momentarily but Shimada frees himself.
Diu tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Shimada lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Kanbei Shimada has got the better of the ground game so far.
Diu is trying to control the position but Shimada postures up.
Shimada postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Shimada cracks Diu with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Shimada closes the distance and clinches up with Diu, looking for a takedown. Shimada pushes Diu against the cage but Diu circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Gar Diu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kanbei Shimada.
Diu throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Diu lands with a cross.
Shimada misses with a wild combination.
Shimada throws a shot from downtown. Diu moves away and avoids it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Shimada shoots in and bounces Diu off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Kanbei Shimada showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Shimada throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Nice uppercut lands for Shimada. That snapped Diu's head back.
Shimada connects with a crisp jab.
Diu pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Diu swings for the body but Shimada moves out of range.
Shimada fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Diu manages to avoid it.
Diu goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
A head kick misses from Diu.
Shimada dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Diu. That did some damage!
A combination from Shimada does no damage.

Shimada shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Diu manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Shimada controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Shimada has gone for a leg lock! Diu slips out almost immediately though and dives into Shimada's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Shimada will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Connects with an elbow from the bottom, proving to the judges that he's still active off his back.

Shimada is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Shimada has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Diu wants to get up but he can't break Shimada's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Diu got a little sloppy there for a moment and Shimada has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Diu has managed to get both his arms back between Shimada's legs - danger averted.

Diu wants to stand but Shimada has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Diu stands and steps away. Shimada gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Shimada shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Diu manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Diu pushes Shimada off and gets back to his feet.
Diu has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Shimada finds it's way round the side to connect with Diu's head.

Diu takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Shimada shoots in looking for a takedown. Diu tries to sprawl out of it but Shimada keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Diu manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Some bone on bone action there as Diu checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Gar Diu has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Shimada closes this distance looking for a takedown but Diu circles away.
Gar Diu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kanbei Shimada.
Diu connects with a right hand. Shimada shakes it off.
Diu takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Shimada fails with the takedown.
Diu tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Shimada was well out of range. Poor timing from Diu.
Diu throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kanbei Shimada comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Shimada has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
