PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Badr White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andy Hug (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Andy Hug told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Badr White!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Andy Hug!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Daniel Franklin and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Hug looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Hug bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
White is trying to get back to his feet.
White is trying to improve his position.
White is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Hug off and has taken his back!

White is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Hug defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
White throws a series of strikes and Hug wriggles onto his back, so he's now mounted. He's in real trouble here.
Hug is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Hug tries to hold on but White postures up.

Hug sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Hug slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

White postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hug is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of White, into his guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Hug's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Hug stands up and waves to White to follow him.
Hug looks for the body kick but White saw that one coming.
White leaves Hug with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
White tries to close the distance and clinch but Hug swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Hug closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Hug prevents White from breaking the clinch.
White can't get the takedown.
Hug goes for a takedown attempt but White pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Hug throws a series of punches but White avoids them all with ease.
Hug shoots in looking for a takedown. White tries to sprawl out of it but Hug keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. White manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Badr White has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andy Hug.
White paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Hug closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming White to the mat! White manages to get full guard.
Hug looks gassed!
Hug won't allow White to sweep him here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hug trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
White wants to stand but Hug is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

White isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Hug stacks White on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Hug!

Hug decides to stand up, so the ref orders White to his feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Hug.
White is looking to regain half guard here but Hug keeps moving and retains side control.
White is not content to let Hug control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
White is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Hug is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Hug lands a heavy elbow.
White is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Hug swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and White is now in Hug's guard. A big mistake from Hug there, giving up the dominant position!
Hug is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

White stands up and waves to Hug to follow him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andy Hug dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


White darts in trying to clinch

so Hug counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Hug controlling from the top position.
Hug's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Hug passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.

Hug is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. White doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hug.
White tries to get to full guard but Hug has control of the leg.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hug stops White from getting back to his feet.
White works his way to full guard. Good work.
White keeping moving, preventing Hug from controlling successfully.
White wants to get back to his feet but Hug is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Hug forces his way into half guard.
White is trying to get back to full guard.
White is refusing to be controlled, as Hug sits in half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
White is looking for a sweep. Hug is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
White is trying to control but Hug passes into side control!
Hug advances to full mount.
Hug putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Hug takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
White is desperately trying to improve his position but Hug has a good base and remains in mount.
Hug trying to control but he's not successful this time.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hug looking to finish White with some ground and pound. This is bad for White!
White is bucking up trying to escape but Hug cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
White taking shots to the head.
Hug tries to control but White wriggling away.
Hug lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
White is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Hug has taken his back!
Hug tries to keep control of the position but White is staying busy.
White tries to escape the position.
What can White do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

White trying to control the hands but Hug breaks the grip.
Andy Hug has got the better of the ground game so far.
White trying to get back to his feet but Hug is in full control for now.
Hug is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Hug controlling well, preventing White from escaping the position.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Hug controlling the positon.

Hug has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. White is defending well but eventually Hug manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! White has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!
