PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jon Silver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tong Po (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tong Po will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jon Silver!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tong Po!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Ren Mimura and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Po tries to close the distance and clinch but Silver swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Po tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Silver paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Silver tries for a takedown but Po sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Silver shoots in and drives through. Po sprawls well.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Silver jumps guard.
Silver has a closed guard, preventing Po from standing up.
Silver looking to hit a scissor sweep but Po is one step ahead there.
Po tries to stand but Silver is controlling from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Po is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Po really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Silver. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Silver wants to control from the top but Po keeps moving.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Po is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Po closes the distance but Silver moves to the side
and Silver counters with a leg kick.
Silver lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Silver.
Silver shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Po pinned against the cage. Po gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Silver counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Po!
Silver takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Po bucks up and throws Silver to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!
Silver shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Po but Po pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Silver closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Po is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Silver is looking to take a break and control but Po is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Silver passes the guard and advances to mount!
Poor strikes thrown by Silver there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Silver jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Po is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Po and Silver has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Silver's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Silver has clasped his hands together around Po's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Silver perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Silver decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Po's guard.

Silver thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Po working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Silver doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Silver manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Silver won't allow Po to get back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jon Silver showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Silver, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
