PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Les Stroud (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Green (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Les Stroud!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, John Green!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Winston Howard and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stroud lands a jab-cross combination.
Green shoots in for a double leg but Stroud sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Green throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Stroud on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Stroud will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Stroud gets a clinch.
Stroud is trying to break free.
Stroud working hard to break the clinch.
Stroud tries to circle away but Green has him pinned against the cage.
Stroud wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Green keeps control of Stroud as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Stroud lands a hook that snaps the head of Green backwards.

Stroud manages to break the clinch.
Stroud defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Green.

Stroud closes the distance and clinches.
Green prevents Stroud from breaking the clinch.
Stroud lands a body punch.
Green looks gassed!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Stroud is trying to force a seperation but Green has the dominant position.
Green can't find room to land a body shot as Stroud controls the action.
Green wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Stroud manages to break the clinch.
Stroud scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Stroud scores with a decent looking hook.
Stroud lands a nice shot that snaps Green's head back.
Stroud misses with the combination.
Green dives in and grabs Stroud's left leg, looking for a takedown. Stroud pushes down on Green's head and hops out.
Les Stroud has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Green.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Stroud moves into the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Stroud's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Stroud breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Green closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Stroud did well to prevent Green getting side control.

Stroud looks like he's trying to stand up.
Stroud gets full guard.

Stroud had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Green defends it easily.

Stroud working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Green doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Green manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Stroud wants to stand but Green is controlling the position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stroud keeping moving, preventing Green from controlling successfully.
Green wants to pass the guard but Stroud is keeping the position.

Stroud looking for subs off his back but Green has passed one foot through into half guard.
Stroud is trying to get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Green tries to clinch

and Stroud counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Stroud is trying to break the clinch but Green is controlling him.
Green wants a takedown.
Green has Stroud pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Stroud manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Stroud blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Stroud lands with a light punch inside.
Green is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Green working aggressively here.
Stroud content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Green gets through Stroud's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Stroud tries to circle away but Green has him pinned against the cage.
The referee calls for Stroud to work.
Stroud lands with a short shot to the head.

Green escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Stroud throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Green on the side of the head.
Stroud just misses with a punch to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stroud throws a series of punches but Green moves out of range.
Green throws a push kick but Stroud slaps the foot to one side.
Green lands an overhand right.
John Green seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Green looks for a takedown but Stroud sprawls well.
Green wants to clinch.
Les Stroud is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Green tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Stroud swivels and escapes.
Stroud swinging wildly here.
Green shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Stroud as he avoids it easily.
Green wants to clinch up but Stroud keeps it at a distance.
Nice straight punches there by Stroud. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Stroud.
Stroud lands with a hook. Green tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Stroud throws a series of punches but Green moves out of range.
Stroud takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Green bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Stroud tries to get back to half guard but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Les Stroud dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Stroud displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Green takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Green dodges the punch combination from Stroud.
Stroud dips to his left and cracks Green with an uppercut!
Stroud connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Green momentarily.
Stroud throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Green on the side of the head.
Green shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Stroud as he avoids it easily.
Stroud lands a really nice looking cross but Green seems unphased.
Stroud jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Green tries to move into range but Stroud moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Stroud stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The fight stays on the outside here - Green looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Green misses with a few strikes there.
Green is breathing heavily.

Stroud lands a left and a right that send Green crashing to the mat, dazed. Stroud thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Green is rocked!
Stroud is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Stroud cracks Green on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Green falls backwards against the cage. Stroud follows up with more strikes that drop Green to his knees. Stroud keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Green! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Les Stroud!
