PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Xavier Armstrong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mahut Uno (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Armstrong comes to the cage accompanied by "Bullet Soul" Switchfoot. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Mahut Uno was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Xavier Armstrong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mahut Uno!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Steve Erwin and John Mangel.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Uno looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Uno tries to clinch but Armstrong is having none of it.
Armstrong lands with a kick to the temple. Uno shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Uno blocks a head kick by Armstrong.

Uno has taken the fight to the clinch.
Uno wants to stall.

Uno ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Uno no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Armstrong wants to stand but Uno has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Uno is pulling down on Armstrong's head. It's preventing any offense from Armstrong, at least for the moment.
Uno looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Uno pulls Armstrong in close to prevent any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Uno striking off his back but it's not causing Armstrong any problems.

Armstrong gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Armstrong is looking to land body kicks.
Uno will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Uno checks a low kick from Armstrong.
Armstrong cracks Uno with a right hand to the side of the head.
Nice body kick there by Armstrong.
A head kick from Armstrong lands but Uno takes it in his stride.
Armstrong wants to clinch but Uno slips to the side

and Uno counters with a combination of strikes to the head and body that crumple Armstrong!

Armstrong is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Uno is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Armstrong has managed to free his arm - good work.
Oh Armstrong is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Uno seems to be working for a kimura but Armstrong defends the submission attempt.

Armstrong trying to control but Uno postures up.
Armstrong seems to have got his legs back now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Armstrong looks like he's trying to stand up.
Uno wants to pass to mount but Armstrong is defending the position.

Uno stands up and beckons Armstrong to join him on the feet.
Mahut Uno seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Armstrong swats away the attempt to clinch by Uno.

Uno is looking to clinch.
Uno misses with a takedown attempt - Armstrong sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Armstrong cracks Uno with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Uno fails with the takedown.
Xavier Armstrong has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mahut Uno.

Uno closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Uno lands in his opponent's guard.
Uno looks gassed!

Armstrong prevents Uno from moving into mount.

Armstrong is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Uno stands up.
Armstrong scores with a nice strike.
Armstrong misses with a head kick.

Uno takes the fight into the clinch.
Armstrong avoiding damage as Uno throws knees to the body.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Armstrong has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Armstrong tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Uno avoids it.

Uno successfully pulls guard.
Armstrong wants to control from the top but Uno keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mahut Uno will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Uno dodges the punch combination from Armstrong.
Armstrong throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Uno gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Uno pulls guard successfully.
Uno tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Uno pulls Armstrong in close to prevent any damage.

Armstrong trying to stand up but can't free himself from Uno's guard.
Uno manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Armstrong really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Uno takes Armstrong's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Armstrong is in trouble.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Uno looking for the RNC.

Uno patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
Will Uno go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Armstrong really must keep his cool here. He's controlling one of Uno's hands and whilst he does that, he's got a chance of escaping the position.
