PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rex Reynolds (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rolex Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie has chosen Amon Amart as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The key to victory for Rex Reynolds has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rex Reynolds!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rolex Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Emerson Jorge and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reynolds looks to score with a jab to the body but Gracie is just out of range.
Reynolds throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Gracie scores a takedown into full mount!
Gracie controlling his opponent.
Gracie looking to control but Reynolds is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Reynolds on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Reynolds tries to get out of the position.

Gracie tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Gracie tries to control but Reynolds wriggling away.
Gracie controlling his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Despite being in the dominant position, Rolex Gracie just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Gracie shoots for a takedown but Reynolds saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Reynolds throws a looping overhand right but Gracie ducks down to avoid it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gracie moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Reynolds looks to land a left hand but Gracie moved out of range nicely.
Reynolds dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gracie takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Rex Reynolds seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Reynolds swinging wildly here.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown but Reynolds shows good takedown defense.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rex Reynolds dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


A big left from Reynolds misses.
Reynolds scores with a sloppy right hand. Gracie should have avoided that one.
Gracie dives in and grabs Reynolds's left leg, looking for a takedown. Reynolds pushes down on Gracie's head and hops out.
Nice defenses there by Gracie.

Gracie is trying hard to land a takedown here. Reynolds sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Rex Reynolds is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gracie fails with a takedown attempt.
Rex Reynolds has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rolex Gracie.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Reynolds tries to bum rush Gracie with a series of wild strikes but Gracie uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Reynolds throws out a loose jab but Gracie uses good head movement to avoid it.

Reynolds drops Gracie with a beautiful combination! Gracie stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Reynolds is looking for the KO!
Gracie fails to land the takedown.

Reynolds swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Rex Reynolds is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Reynolds loads up on a big right hand but Gracie slips the punch.
Reynolds misses with a wild combination.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Reynolds ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Reynolds connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rex Reynolds dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Reynolds connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Reynolds lands with a hook. Gracie tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Reynolds throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Reynolds loads up on a big right hand but Gracie slips the punch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Reynolds doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Gracie counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Gracie not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Gracie tries to pass the half guard into mount. Reynolds knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Gracie wants to take a breather but Reynolds is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gracie wants to free his trapped foot but Reynolds is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Gracie moves nicely into side control.
Gracie is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Reynolds will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Gracie is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Reynolds's shoulder. That is not cool.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gracie looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Gracie in side control, just content to control the action for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Reynolds is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Gracie has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Reynolds trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Reynolds trying to remain calm as Gracie controls from the top position.
Reynolds knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gracie on the ground.
Rolex Gracie has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Gracie in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Reynolds is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Rolex Gracie!
