Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Lanza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kurt Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Lanza! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kurt Johnson! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Jonathan Paton and Eddie Farnsworth.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Lanza checks the leg kick. Johnson tries a head kick but it misses.
Johnson tries to work over Lanza's front leg with a kick but Lanza checks it. Kurt Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Lanza checks a low kick from Johnson. Johnson moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Johnson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lanza tries to avoid it but Johnson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lanza to the ground. Lanza escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Johnson closes the distance and clinches. Johnson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Johnson throws a series of punches but Lanza avoids them all with ease. Lanza checks a low kick from Johnson. Lanza darts in trying to clinch and Johnson counters by moving into the clinch. Johnson gets through Lanza's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Lanza changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Johnson fights it off and pushes away nicely.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lanza scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Johnson prevents Lanza from moving into mount. Lanza wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Johnson, who protects the arm well. Lanza is breathing heavily. Lanza wants to control for a moment but Johnson uses the opportunity to move back to half guard. Johnson wants to get back to full guard. Johnson manages to get to full guard.
Johnson looking for a sweep. Not yet Johnson, not yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lanza stops Johnson from standing up. Johnson pushes Lanza off and scrambles back to his feet.
Johnson has managed to clinch.
Johnson controlling the action here for a moment.
Lanza's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Lanza tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Johnson counters into the clinch. Nicely done. A short right from Johnson on the inside. Johnson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lanza throws a head kick but Johnson moves out of range.
Johnson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Lanza scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Johnson is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Lanza wants to lay and pray for a moment but Johnson keeps working. Lanza is trying to get an arm triangle but Johnson is defending well. Johnson sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Johnson has hold of Lanza's hands but Lanza slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lanza is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Johnson defends it well. Lanza thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Johnson's head. Johnson is trying to maintain the position but Lanza is very close to passing his half guard. Lanza wants to work for an arm triangle but Johnson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Johnson gets back to full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Johnson pushes Lanza off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Johnson misses with a takedown attempt and Lanza counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Lanza. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Kurt Johnson will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Johnson fails to land the takedown. A right-left combo lands from Johnson. No luck for Lanza with that takedown attempt. Lanza swats away the attempt to clinch by Johnson. Johnson lands a jab-cross combination.
It looks like Joe Lanza has been cut. Lanza takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Johnson doesn't succeed with the takedown and Lanza counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Johnson! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Johnson looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back! Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Johnson tries to escape the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lanza is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Johnson trying to control the position but Lanza manages to sink in the hooks. Lanza looking for the choke from the back. Johnson turns into Lanza and is now in his guard.
Lanza looking for a sweep. Not yet Lanza, not yet. Lanza has his foot on Johnson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Johnson works his way back into a safe position though. Lanza tries to land a sweep but no joy. Lanza trying to keep a closed guard but Johnson is proving a slippery customer.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Johnson trying to control but Lanza is working from the bottom. Johnson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lanza swivels though and keeps the full guard. Lanza is controlling Johnson's posture.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Johnson thows a leg kick but Lanza checks it and Lanza counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Lanza is keen to just control but Johnson is a slippery customer. Johnson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Lanza is working for a kimura but Johnson is defending it quite comfortably.
The fighters are battling for position here. Johnson manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Johnson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Lanza throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Lanza wants to control the action here but instead Johnson manages to pass to full mount! Joe Lanza overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Lanza tries to reverse the position but Johnson maintains control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Johnson gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks! Johnson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Johnson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Lanza counters by moving into the clinch. Joe Lanza has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kurt Johnson. Johnson lands with a light punch inside. Lanza looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Lanza is trying to drag Johnson to the mat but Johnson just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Johnson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Lanza. Johnson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Lanza is trying to defend but Johnson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Lanza looking for submissions from an awkward position here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Joe Lanza will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Joe Lanza's cut. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
Lanza shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Johnson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Lanza manages to get himself to full guard.
Lanza is working an open guard so Johnson takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Johnson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Lanza looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Johnson tries to roll over but Lanza keeps him under control. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Lanza lands a nice short elbow. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Johnson looking for submissions off his back. Lanza has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Johnson defend it? Lanza steps over the head and cranks it - Johnson is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Lanza!
