PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Balack Rassum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joel King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joel King is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Balack Rassum!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Joel King!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Albert Achterberg and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rassum shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Rassum trying to mount his opponent but King defends it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
King trying to hold on to Rassum's head to control him but Rassum postures up.

Rassum is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so King is just riding it out for now. Rassum eventually gives up the hold.
Rassum looks to land a strike but King avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

King pushes Rassum off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Rassum shoots in but King avoids the takedown attempt easily.

King stands up from Rassum's guard - King perhaps looking for a knockout.

and Rassum counters with a single leg into guard. King didn't expect that.

Rassum postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! King is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Rassum, into his guard.
King throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rassum works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
King wants to get up but he can't break Rassum's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Rassum is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. King is aware though and is defending well.

King got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rassum has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, King has managed to get both his arms back between Rassum's legs - danger averted.

King is trying to stick to Rassum's back but Rassum is turning into King. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in King's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Rassum.
King has his hands on Rassum's head, controlling the position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

King bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rassum's guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

King closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Rassum tries to hold on but King pushes him away.

King has hold of Rassum's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Rassum manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

King avoids the attempt from Rassum to control.
Rassum tries to reverse the position but King maintains control.

Rassum is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

King takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rassum tries to lock up and control but King gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Joel King showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

and Rassum counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. King is lucky that one didn't land flush.
King is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Rassum changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. King looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Balack Rassum.
Well King has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
