PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jin Kazama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and DJ Lance Rock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kazama comes into the arena with Mamma said Knock you out blaring out of the sound system. Rock is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Yo Gabba Gabba Theme Song. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jin Kazama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, DJ Lance Rock!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Aafke Stam and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rock shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Rock throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Rock seems to be working for a kimura but Kazama defends the submission attempt.

Rock is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Kazama keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Kazama wants to control but Rock is keeping busy.

Rock is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kazama defends it well.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Rock seems to be working for a kimura but Kazama defends the submission attempt.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Rock slips a straight right by Kazama.
Rock looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Kazama missing with a left hand there. Rock was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Kazama lands with a straight right. Rock didn't see that one coming.

Rock rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kazama moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Kazama swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Rock counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Kazama is defending against the submission attempts here by Rock.
Rock looks gassed!
Kazama moves into full guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Rock has gone for a leg lock! Kazama slips out almost immediately though and dives into Rock's guard.
Kazama trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Rock is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Kazama sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Rock's guard.

Kazama stalling.
Kazama moves nicely into side control.
Rock tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Kazama presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Rock is trying to escape the mount.
Kazama content just to control the position here.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jin Kazama will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Kazama lands a nice shot that snaps Rock's head back.
Rock fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Kazama leaves Rock with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Rock fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kazama avoids it really well and circles away.
Jin Kazama has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of DJ Lance Rock.
Rock is breathing heavily.
Rock uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kazama.

Rock closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kazama circles away.
Kazama moves in looking to clinch but Rock pushes him off.
Rock shoots for a takedown but Kazama saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Kazama is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Rock.
Kazama tries to clinch up.
Kazama lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Kazama misses with the combination.
Jin Kazama seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kazama clinches.

Rock tries to pull guard but Kazama holds him up against the cage and eventually Rock drops back down to his feet.

Rock has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kazama uses from the top position.
Kazama tries to free his leg and advance position but Rock is retaining full guard.
Kazama controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Kazama has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Kazama advances position into side control!
Kazama tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Rock manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rock looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Rock is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kazama is just riding it out for now. Rock eventually gives up the hold.
Kazama is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Rock's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Rock's back!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Rock is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Kazama gets his way!
Rock is really stuck here.

Kazama is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Rock has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Kazama is trying to stick to Rock's back but Rock is turning into Kazama. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Kazama's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Rock.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jin Kazama dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Rock shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

so Rock counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Kazama bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rock's guard.

Rock is looking for a triangle here but Kazama uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Rock takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Kazama throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Rock because Kazama loaded up on that one.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

DJ Lance Rock has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jin Kazama is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jin Kazama.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kazama, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
