Ishikawa is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: The Black Dahlia Murder - Necropolis. Kazuo Ishikawa has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Ren Akita's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ren Akita!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kazuo Ishikawa!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ishikawa throws a series of punches but Akita moves out of range.

Akita looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Akita trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Akita won't allow Ishikawa to get back to his feet.
Akita passes Ishikawa's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Akita is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Ishikawa wants to get back to his feet.
Ishikawa really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Akita. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Akita thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Akita is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ishikawa is just riding it out for now. Akita eventually gives up the hold.

Akita is looking for a kimura but Ishikawa is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Akita to get the leverage.

Ishikawa is refusing to be controlled, as Akita sits in half guard.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Akita shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Akita is working for a kimura but Ishikawa is defending it quite comfortably.
Akita works his foot free and advances to mount.
Akita with the ground and pound from mount.
Akita breaks from Ishikawa's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Akita is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Ishikawa can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Akita scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Ishikawa?
Ishikawa really wants to buck Akita off and get back to his feet.

Akita has control of Ishikawa's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Ishikawa regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Ishikawa is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Akita putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Akita scoring with strikes but Ishikawa is staying in there.
Ishikawa's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Akita with shots to the head and body - Ishikawa looks very uncomfortable down there.

Akita jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Ishikawa manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Ishikawa is pushing Akita's head away, looking to escape. Akita manages to hold on to the position though.
Akita tries to score with some ground and pound. Ishikawa controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Ishikawa is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Ishikawa throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Akita.

Akita shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Akita wants to take a breather but Ishikawa is having none of it.
Ishikawa is trying to stand up here but Akita is controlling him well.

Ishikawa is not content to let Akita control the position.
Akita working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Akita has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Ishikawa wants to get back to his feet.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Akita fails with a takedown attempt.
Ishikawa swinging wildly here.
Ishikawa misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ren Akita dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Ishikawa swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ishikawa throws a right hand that Akita ducks under and follows up with a left that Akita also avoids with ease.
Akita tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ishikawa sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Akita somewhat.
Ishikawa misses with a two punch combination.

Akita is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Ishikawa's half guard.
Akita trying to control the action but Ishikawa is working from the bottom.
Ishikawa tries to kick Akita off but Akita keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Akita working over Ishikawa with some ground and pound. Ishikawa looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Akita seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Ishikawa is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
