PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Pat Harrison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eric Wessel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pat Harrison!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eric Wessel!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Alyssa Summers and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wessel closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Wessel lands in his opponent's guard.

Harrison has his feet on Wessel's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Eric Wessel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Harrison takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Wessel closes this distance looking for a takedown but Harrison circles away.
Wessel moves in looking to clinch but Harrison pushes him off.

Wessel decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Wessel breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Harrison thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Wessel if he has to take too many more of those.

Harrison turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Harrison manages to end up in side control.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Harrison has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Wessel has managed to clinch.
Harrison tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Wessel wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Harrison's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Wessel wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Wessel takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Harrison tries to clinch up.

Wessel takes a swing at Harrison's ribcage but misses.
No joy there for Wessel, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pat Harrison dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Harrison misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Harrison can't find room to land a body shot as Wessel controls the action.

Harrison escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Harrison lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Harrison takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Pat Harrison is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Harrison tries to close the distance and clinch but Wessel swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Wessel looks to land a combination. Harrison sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Harrison gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Wessel has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Harrison is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
A nice elbow there by Wessel.


Harrison is rocked!
Harrison keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Wessel avoids the attempt from Harrison to control.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Wessel has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Harrison's face.

Eric Wessel showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Harrison checks a leg kick.
Wessel will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Wessel misses with a jab, cross combination.
Harrison shoots in for a double leg but Wessel sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Wessel misses with a low kick as Harrison jumps back.
Good standup being displayed there by Wessel as he connects with a hook.
Wessel lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Harrison backs up against the cage.

Wessel lands with a right that hurts Harrison. Harrison looks to clinch but Wessel throws a short knee that drops Harrison. This one is all over!
