PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hennuis Colt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rico Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Hennuis Colt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rico Rodriguez!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Matheus Silva and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Colt shoots in for a double leg but Rodriguez sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Colt doesn't manage to clinch there - Rodriguez circles away.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Colt.
A head kick misses from Rodriguez.
Horrible takedown by Colt or perhaps it was just good defense by Rodriguez which made him look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hennuis Colt. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rodriguez slaps away a takedown attempt from Colt, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Rodriguez moves into the clinch.
Rodriguez tries to pull guard but Colt holds him up against the cage and eventually Rodriguez drops back down to his feet.

Rodriguez jumps guard and drags Colt to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Colt throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Rodriguez is defended easily by Colt.

Rodriguez pushes Colt up against the cage in a clinch.

No luck for Rodriguez with that takedown attempt.
Colt's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Colt duly obliges.
Rodriguez moves out of range of the body kick from Colt.

and Rodriguez counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Colt can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rodriguez controls the pace.

Rodriguez stands up from Colt's guard - Rodriguez perhaps looking for a knockout.

Rodriguez is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Colt!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rodriguez looking to control but Colt is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Rodriguez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Poor strikes thrown by Rodriguez there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Rodriguez is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Colt is surviving well by controlling Rodriguez's body position as best he can.
Colt knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rodriguez on the ground.
Colt can't escape the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Colt keeps the fight on the outside.
Rodriguez lands a really nice looking cross but Colt seems unphased.
Colt looks to clinch
and Rodriguez counters with a one-two to the body.

Rodriguez is nestled in close to Colt, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Well, if Rodriguez is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Colt can't keep his opponent in guard - Rodriguez advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rodriguez trying to control the action but Colt is working from the bottom.

Rodriguez throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Rodriguez not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Colt trying to get back to full guard but Rodriguez takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Rodriguez scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Colt gives up his back whilst trying to strike.
Rico Rodriguez has got the better of the ground game so far.
Good control from Rodriguez.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
You can see the frustration on Colt's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Colt won't enjoy being in this position. Rodriguez looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Colt is tapping - it's over boys! Rodriguez picks up the submission victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Rico Rodriguez!
