PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between GABRIEL MAMIC (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Puff Jay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). MAMIC kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Limp Bizkit - My Generation . We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed right hand from Jay misses the target.
Jay looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? MAMIC is fending him off so far but Jay persists. Nope, MAMIC circles away and we're back to standing.
Puff Jay seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Horrible takedown by Jay or perhaps it was just good defense by MAMIC which made him look bad.

so Jay counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
MAMIC trying to keep a closed guard but Jay is proving a slippery customer.

MAMIC wants to sweep here but Jay controlling him for the moment.

Jay is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
MAMIC is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Jay is looking for a sweep. MAMIC is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
MAMIC wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Jay uses the opportunity to regain full guard.

MAMIC tries to stand but Jay is controlling from the bottom.
Jay pulls MAMIC in close to his closed guard and prevents MAMIC from doing any damage or advancing position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
MAMIC would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
MAMIC chips away with some ground and pound.
MAMIC wanted to stand there but Jay had control of the position.
Jay is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jay can do anything to dispel that myth.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
MAMIC throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jay works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Jay seems keen to control MAMIC's posture.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
MAMIC tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Jay finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

Jay throws the left hand but MAMIC avoids the punch easily.

Jay closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Jay lands in his opponent's guard.
Jay stays in close to MAMIC's body and controls the position.
Jay's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Jay slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
MAMIC manages to work his way to half guard, despite Jay's best efforts.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Puff Jay dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

and Jay counters with a shoot takedown. MAMIC fights it but they end up in guard.

Jay is working MAMIC over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Jay wants to pass the guard but MAMIC is keeping the position.

MAMIC has his feet on Jay's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
MAMIC wants to clinch.
No luck for Jay with that takedown attempt.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
MAMIC throws a looping overhand right but Jay ducks down to avoid it.
MAMIC throws a lazy head kick

and Jay counters with a nice double leg into side control. MAMIC won't be happy with that.
MAMIC is working to avoid the ground and pound but Jay connects with a decent elbow.
MAMIC is trying to escape the position but Jay is controlling the position.
MAMIC is not content to let Jay control the position.
Puff Jay has got the better of the ground game so far.
Jay tries to stand but MAMIC is controlling his head.
MAMIC dodges the ground and pound from Jay.

MAMIC explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

MAMIC clinches with his opponent.
Jay has MAMIC pressed against the cage, preventing MAMIC from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, MAMIC just misses with a elbow thrown towards Jay's brow.
MAMIC drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
MAMIC could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Jay pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Jay fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Jay avoids the head kick by MAMIC.

Jay tries to clinch up
enabling MAMIC to counter with a crisp jab.

Jay decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

MAMIC looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
MAMIC tries to get to full guard but Jay has control of the leg.

Jay decides to stand and escape the position.
Jay doesn't manage to clinch there - MAMIC circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Puff Jay showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

and Jay counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in MAMIC's guard now.

MAMIC is looking for a triangle but Jay pushes his legs off easily.
Jay forces his way into half guard.
Jay slips a nice elbow through MAMIC's hands, connecting with MAMIC's forehead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
MAMIC wants to control but Jay is keeping busy and won't allow it.

MAMIC looks like he's trying to stand up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Jay lands a nice short elbow.

Jay decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Jay throws a leg kick
and MAMIC makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Jay really felt that one!
A punch combination from MAMIC misses.
Jay tries to clinch but MAMIC moves out of range.
MAMIC misses with a takedown
and Jay counters with a straight right hand.

MAMIC scores with a short punch from the bottom.
MAMIC lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Jay!
The referee warns Jay that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
MAMIC looking to control but Jay is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Jay sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

MAMIC stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Jay to get to his feet.
MAMIC tries to clinch but Jay moves out of range.
MAMIC defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Jay.
Jay tries to close the distance and clinch but MAMIC swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

MAMIC feints and as Jay raises his hands in defense, MAMIC changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Jay is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Jay seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Jay controls MAMIC momentarily but MAMIC frees himself.
Jay wants to sweep but no luck.
MAMIC with a flurry of punches that miss.
MAMIC postures up in Jay's guard and throws a big left but Jay blocks it.
MAMIC won't allow Jay to sweep him here.

GABRIEL MAMIC has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Puff Jay is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
MAMIC lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Jay circles away quickly and effectively.

And that's the end of the fight!
Puff Jay comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
