The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith doesn't manage to clinch there - Finlitis circles away.
Smith rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Finlitis moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Smith throws a lazy right hand but Finlitis sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Finlitis manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Smith has Finlitis in his guard.

Smith has his foot on Finlitis's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Finlitis works his way back into a safe position though.

Smith does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Smith changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Finlitis tries to avoid it but Smith manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Finlitis to the ground. Finlitis escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Smith shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Finlitis sprawls well. Finlitis wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Smith gets slowly back to his feet.
